Cornell Custom Silicon Systems (C2S2) is a unique, student-led engineering project team providing hands-on experience in the full computer chip lifecycle – from specification and design to fabrication and testing. Funded through the Shen Fund for Social Impact, C2S2 empowers undergraduate students to develop custom silicon solutions for real-world applications, currently in partnership with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. This project offers an unparalleled opportunity for aspiring hardware engineers to gain practical skills in open-source hardware, chip design, and embedded systems. Students contribute to all stages of development, including circuit board creation and software stack implementation, fostering a deep understanding of computer system design and innovation.
