About

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is New South Wales' independent authority responsible for prosecuting serious criminal offences on behalf of the community. Established under the Director of Public Prosecutions Act 1986, the ODPP conducts indictable prosecutions, committal proceedings, summary hearings, and appeals across the Local, District, Supreme, and higher courts, while ensuring decisions are free from political or other improper influences. In addition to its core litigation work, the ODPP operates a Witness Assistance Service that supports victims and witnesses throughout the prosecutorial process. The ODPP offers a diverse, inclusive workplace for legal, administrative, and social work professionals, actively encouraging applicants from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, multicultural backgrounds, LGBTQIA+ communities, and individuals with disabilities. Career opportunities focus on upholding justice through impartial prosecution and public‑interest advocacy.
