About

The Sächsische Staatstheater – Staatsoper Dresden und Staatsschauspiel Dresden is a leading state‑run cultural institution that brings together opera, ballet, concert and spoken‑word theatre under one umbrella. With more than 1,100 employees and an annual audience of roughly 4,000, the organization operates the internationally acclaimed Semperoper, the historic Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, the Staatsopernchor and the Semperoper Ballet, as well as a vibrant children’s and youth‑theatre program on the Studiobühne Semper Zwei. The Staatsschauspiel Dresden, the largest speaking‑theatre in Saxony, stages up to 25 new productions each season across its main theatre in the Altstadt and the smaller “Kleine Haus” in the Neustadt. Together, these ensembles and venues offer a rich, multidisciplinary artistic experience that blends centuries‑old traditions with contemporary innovation, making the Staatstheater a distinctive cultural landmark in Germany.
