About

West Gate is the U.S. Department of Energy’s fourth Lab‑Embedded Entrepreneurship Program, administered by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s (NREL) Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center. The two‑year program embeds selected entrepreneurs within NREL’s world‑class laboratories, pairing them with scientists whose expertise aligns with the startup’s core technology, and provides $115,000 annual stipends, technical assistance funding, healthcare and relocation support, and a tailored curriculum of mentorship and entrepreneurial training. By leveraging NREL’s research capabilities, West Gate helps innovators de‑risk and commercialize technologies that address critical energy challenges, accelerating the growth of their companies toward an affordable, secure energy future.
