ROLE
The Supervisor, Laboratory (HPHA) is primarily responsible for overseeing the daily operations and clinical support of the Core Laboratory Program at assigned sites ensuring quality patient care and safe, competent practices in accordance with professional, accreditation and industry standards and best practices. The Supervisor will coordinate staffing, review and address workload measurement trends, prioritize workload, supervise practice and facilitate person-centered care and interprofessional collaboration. In addition, the Supervisor will provide support and coverage to the Laboratory Information System Analyst. As a dynamic leader, the Supervisor will demonstrate creativity, flexibility and innovation; promote effective team building and help facilitate staff professional development through promotion of standards of practice and ongoing learning.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program
- Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a personal motor vehicle for travel within the HPHA
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)
- 5-7 years progressive experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in a hospital setting
- Demonstrated leadership and team building skills
- Demonstrated ability to instruct, train, mentor and coach staff
- Demonstrated skills in the areas of financial, human resource, quality improvement, change and program management
- Well developed negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated analytical skills necessary to gather and interpret qualitative and quantitative data
- Demonstrated positive attitude and solution-based approach to conflict and system flaws
- Demonstrated planning, organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated working knowledge of all aspects and tasks completed by Lab staff
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively manage competing demands and multiple priorities
DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION
- BSc and / or Advanced Certification (ART) in General Laboratory with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Services preferred
- Demonstrated exceptional computer and technology skills required; Microsoft Office Suite and Meditech preferred
- Charge or Senior Technologist experience in hospital setting preferred
