3D Calling Network Engineer, Google Beam

This is a unique role driving real-world networking strategy for 3D calls as part of the Google Beam Team. You will bring your knowledge of real-world networks to enable Beam deployments across a variety of complex networking environments, from Google's own labs to customer sites and unique environments like mobile demo vehicles. You will embed directly with the Networking Software Engineering (SWE) team as a key contributor to the engineering road map, working cross-functionally with deployment teams to ensure high-fidelity telepresence experiences.
US: $176000 - $257000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

- Support Beam deployments by working directly with internal and external network admins to troubleshoot a variety of complex networking environments.
- Influence the engineering roadmap by providing consultation on real-world networking considerations.
- Drive the strategy for long-term support of customer networking needs, including defining our testing and documentation approach.
- Provide consultation on tooling best practices and development.
- Act as Beam's networking expert, providing consultation and education across the software organization.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10 years of experience with network routing protocols, design, and troubleshooting with network equipment providers.
- Experience in one or more programming languages such as C++, Go, or Python.
Preferred qualifications:
- 2 years of experience leading the networking support strategy for a complex or novel product.
- Experience with planning and designing large-scale networks across multiple sites and products.
- Experience with real-time communications protocols such as WebRTC, QUIC, or MoQ.
- Experience with traffic inspection environments and sensitive real-time systems.
- Knowledge of video streaming and high-bandwidth media transport.
