Position Summary
The Accounting Specialist supports the day-to-day financial operations of the district by performing routine accounting functions, maintaining accurate financial records, and assisting with reporting and compliance processes. This role works under the direction of the Comptroller and collaborates with internal departments to ensure timely and accurate processing of financial transactions.
The Accounting Specialist plays a key role in supporting month-end close, maintaining internal controls, and ensuring adherence to district, state, and federal financial guidelines, while contributing to the overall efficiency of the Finance team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform daily accounting tasks, including data entry, account reconciliations, and transaction processing
- Assist with monthly bank and general ledger reconciliations
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, including preparing reports and maintaining documentation
- Process and review disbursements, receipts, and procurement card transactions to ensure accuracy and proper coding
- Assist with grant tracking, fixed asset records, and student activity fund processing
- Maintain organized and accurate financial records in accordance with district policies and procedures
- Support audit preparation by compiling documentation and responding to requests from internal and external auditors
- Collaborate with departments to resolve discrepancies and ensure compliance with financial processes
- Provide support for payroll processing as needed, including assisting with W-2 and 1099 preparation
- Perform other duties as required.
Education and Experience
Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles and financial processes
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial reporting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
- Effective communication and customer service skills when working with internal stakeholders

Performance Evaluation
The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS/LEADS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS/LEADS to ensure renewal of certification.
