About Us

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol's primary mission is to reduce collisions and make the highways of North Carolina as safe as possible. The NCSHP has more than 1,600 troopers who cover nearly 80,000 miles of North Carolina roadways, more than any other state except Texas. In addition to enforcing the state's traffic laws, state troopers also guide traffic during hurricane evacuations, re-route traffic around hazardous chemical spills, and they stand ready should any act of terrorism occur. State Troopers are committed to protecting North Carolina's motoring public.

Description of Work

The NC State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) is seeking a well-rounded, focused-driven individual to join our team as an Administrative Officer. The Administrative Officer will provide broad administrative support to the Office of the General Counsel.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting attorneys, managing complex calendars tied to legal deadlines, maintaining case and mail tracking systems, conducting research, and handling policy-based inquiries.

  • Supports HR functions such as onboarding, processing invoices, and frequently interacts with high level officials and the public.

  • Requires strong prioritization, professionalism, and the ability to handle sensitive or emotionally charged situations independently.

Candidates meet the minimum qualifications of this position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.   • Considerable knowledge of modern office procedures, practices, technology, and equipment.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and logically in oral and written form; ability to use correct grammar, organization, and structure.

  • Some knowledge of judicial and quasi-judicial procedures.

  • Some knowledge of personnel and accounting principles and practices.

  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting policies and procedures.

  • Ability to plan, assign and review work of subordinates.

  • Ability to recognize and prioritize urgent needs while working independently with little supervision

  • Ability to deal with confidential/sensitive issues and the use of discretion.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with people contacted in the course of work to include a wide variety of federal, state, and local officials.

Position/Physical Requirements:

Typical work schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-5:00pm

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in HR, budgeting, research or administrative management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
