Afterschool Counselor - Youth Center Branch

The YMCA focus is to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Provides direct supervision of a group of children within the Afterschool Childcare Program. Delivers a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Essential Functions:

  1. Engages and supervises a group of children. Program hours are Monday - Friday from 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm. (All-day camps are provided for some school closures and shifts will range between the hours of 7:00 am - 6:00 pm.)

  2. Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.

  3. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.

  4. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.

  5. Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.

  6. Attends all staff meetings and required training programs.

  7. Other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor.

Employees and volunteers who directly supervise children and teens will:

• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children and teens

• Attend required abuse risk management training annually

• Adhere to procedures for managing high-risk activities and supervising children and teens.

• Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.

• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
