In This Role
As an AI Engineer – Robotics, you will design, develop, and maintain advanced machine learning models and software systems that support cutting-edge embodied AI and robotics research. You will contribute to the development of robotic foundation models by combining AI model innovation with real-world robotic applications, including simulation and hardware integration.
You will help transform research concepts into scalable, deployable systems by building training and evaluation pipelines, integrating robotic perception and control stacks, and enabling efficient deployment of algorithms in both simulated and physical environments. This role requires a strong engineering mindset, hands-on robotics experience, and the ability to work in a dynamic research-driven environment.
You will collaborate closely with researchers, engineers, and stakeholders to advance state-of-the-art robotic learning systems while maintaining open-source contributions and supporting customer deployment efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain machine learning models for robotics and embodied AI applications
- Fine-tune and improve complex software implementations for robotic systems
- Build and maintain training and evaluation pipelines using tools such as Azure Machine Learning
- Analyze, curate, and refine datasets for robotic and AI model performance
- Develop tools and frameworks for rapid deployment of algorithms in simulation and on robotic hardware
- Integrate robotic control and perception systems with simulation environments
- Architect and implement test automation infrastructure for robotics software
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues across production and research systems
- Support deployment efforts and assist with customer-related technical issues
- Contribute to open-source robotics software and research initiatives
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive research impact and system performance
- Document technical designs, workflows, and system improvements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field
- 2–4 years of experience in software engineering, machine learning, or robotics
- Minimum 2+ years of experience with Python
- Minimum 2+ years of experience with PyTorch (or similar ML frameworks)
- Minimum 2+ years of experience with ROS2 (Robot Operating System)
- Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and software design
- Experience with simulation environments or robotic hardware systems
- Experience with debugging, unit testing, and maintaining both new and legacy systems
- Proficiency in problem diagnosis and resolution in complex systems
- Experience building or working with ML training pipelines and evaluation frameworks
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with robotic learning models such as vision-language-action models, reinforcement learning, or diffusion models
- Familiarity with integrating simulation environments and benchmarking robotic systems
- Experience working in robotics labs or academic research environments
- Exposure to open-source robotics or AI projects
- Experience deploying machine learning models in real-world or production environments
- Strong collaboration skills in agile, research-focused teams
- Ability to work onsite with specialized robotics equipment and systems
Salary Range
Pay ranges vary based on multiple factors including, without limitation, skill sets, education, responsibilities, experience, and geographical market. The pay range for this position reflects geographic based ranges for Washington state: $52.88-55.29 USD hourly. The salary/wage and job title for this opening will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience and may be outside this range.
