Overview

Operations provides critical support for all of Deutsche Bank's Investment Bank businesses by enabling the seamless delivery of transactions and processes to our global client base, managing trade lifecycle events and related controls across Investment Bank platforms, and supporting global trading desks in established financial centers such as New York, London, and Frankfurt. You will be a senior member of the Americas Commodities Middle Office team, supporting the Investment Bank's Global Commodities Trading activities from our New York office, reporting to the Americas Head of FIC Middle Office, and serving as a key member of the regional Operations management team.

The Commodities Middle Office team is responsible for delivering best-in-class operational services to the Bcandidusiness, including support for trading across Physical and Financial Oil, Global Natural Gas and LNG, Power, Agricultural products, Base and Precious Metals, and both exchange-traded and OTC Commodity derivatives.

This role covers both "Run The Bank" (RTB) daily operations and "Change the Bank" (CTB) transformation initiatives, with a focus on enhancing the control framework, improving process efficiency, and driving strategic change for the Commodities platform.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide a quality, first-line support service to the Commodities trading division in an efficient and cost-effective way, while maintaining a robust control and risk management framework

  • Oversee and manage the complete trade lifecycle for complex commodity transactions, from trade capture and validation through to settlement, ensuring accuracy and timeliness

  • Implement and monitor rigorous controls around physical commodity settlements, including inventory management, logistics, scheduling, and the handling of physical assets and related documentation (e.g., bills of lading, warehouse receipts)

  • Manage key operational metrics in line with agreed targets and risk tolerances, with a strong focus on cost, control, and regulatory adherence.

  • Ensure regulatory compliance from a US and regional perspective, with a deep understanding of rules governed by bodies such as the CFTC ( Commodity Futures Trading Commission), FERC, and exchanges like CME (Chicago Mercantile Exchange )/NYMEX

  • Partner with Technology, Business, and Finance teams to drive strategic and tactical transformation programs aimed at enhancing processing efficiency, automation, and control

  • Provide people leadership, including the development of key talent, mentoring junior staff, and managing the overall needs of the team

  • Manage performance systemically by setting qualitative and quantitative goals, promoting individual accountability, and removing impediments to success

Skills You’ll Need

  • Broad and deep knowledge of commodity products (physical and financial), market practices, and client requirements in the Americas. Extensive prior Middle Office Operations experience in Commodities is required

  • Proven expertise in physical commodity settlements and the associated control framework across energy (oil, gas, power) and/or metals is essential

  • Deep knowledge of Middle Office roles and responsibilities, controls, and processes, including trade lifecycle management, P&L validation, and intersystem reconciliations.

  • A proven track record of delivering operational excellence and driving collaboration across multi-product and functional teams in the context of varied local regulations and technologies

Skills That Will Help You Excel

  • Extensive experience with global investment bank exposure and a history of leading complex, multi-year strategies impacting product, process, and technology

  • Exceptional leadership skills with a proven ability to manage stakeholder relationships across Front Office, Technology, Finance, and other operational teams

Expectations

It is the Bank’s expectation that employees hired into this role will work in the New York, NY office in accordance with the Bank’s hybrid working model.

The salary range for this position in New York City is $107,500 to $182,500. Actual salaries may be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s skill set, experience, education, work location and other qualifications. Posted salary ranges do not include incentive compensation or any other type of remuneration.
