Analyst, Asset Allocation
Cross-functional collaboration across Challenger Life, engaging diverse teams while contributing to asset allocation strategy development and implementation.
Build deep expertise across fixed income, equity and liquid strategies, with hands-on experience in quantitative modelling, scenario analysis and portfolio construction.
This role is based at our Sydney CBD Office with a flexible working arrangement of 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.
Challenger is currently hiring an Analyst to work with the Head of Asset Allocation. The role will be responsible for analysis of existing as well as prospective investments. Given the focus of the team, this role will be focused on developing tools for forecasting and simulating portfolio performance for the purposes of asset allocation. The role will require in-depth analysis of a variety of asset classes across fixed income, equities, alternative investments, and property.
Role responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Strategic and Tactical Asset Allocation
Support the development and review of strategic and tactical asset allocation analysis, including portfolio construction, optimisation and scenario analysis.
Assist with maintaining capital market assumptions, including expected returns, volatilities and correlations across asset classes.
Help assess how potential allocation changes may affect portfolio risk, capital usage and expected returns.
Stakeholder Engagement and Development
Assist with preparing papers and presentations for investment committees and senior investment stakeholders.
Work with portfolio managers, risk and finance teams to build an understanding of how asset allocation decisions are developed and implemented.
Continue to develop knowledge of asset classes, portfolio theory and Challenger Life’s balance sheet.
Tools and Infrastructure
Assist with developing and improving models and tools that support asset allocation analysis, including simulation and optimisation work.
Help maintain analytical tools, code libraries and data processes using tools such as Python and Excel.
Follow good practices for version control, documentation and reproducibility when working with models, code and analytical outputs.
Portfolio Monitoring and Reporting
Assist with monitoring portfolio positioning against targets, ranges and risk limits, and help identify potential rebalancing requirements.
Support the preparation of regular reporting on asset allocation, performance and portfolio exposures for senior management and committees.
About the Team:
Headed by the CIO Life reporting through to the Group Chief Investment Officer, the Investment Strategy team is a key stakeholder in the investment management process with interaction across all the broader asset management functions as well as multiple support groups across the firm.
In addition to managing a portfolio of investments the team is also responsible the asset allocation models for Challenger Life Company – including a proprietary set of models to measure various asset risk premiums and optimise portfolio construction.
Skills Required:
The role is highly technical and demands a genuine interest in the commercial aspects of investing within a Life company. We are looking for the following -
Proven ability to dissect complex data, interpret multifaceted concepts, and make informed, data-driven decisions.
Strong academic track-record in quantitative disciplines such as Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Actuarial Studies, Finance/Economics etc.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to perform in-depth financial analysis.
Must have a collaborative and team-first mindset and thrive in a fast-paced and dead-line driven environment.
Strong proficiency in Python for quantitative analysis and advanced Excel modelling skills.
Solid understanding of asset classes, portfolio theory, optimisation techniques and risk/return analysis.
Familiarity with modern AI tools and technologies, with the ability to apply them responsibly to improve analytical outcomes and productivity.
Familiarity with life insurance or annuity balance sheets, capital frameworks and liability-driven investing is well regarded.
