e-STORAGE is a subsidiary of Canadian Solar and a leading company specializing in the design, manufacturing, and integration of battery energy storage systems for utility-scale applications. Within Japan, the Applications Engineer will work closely with the engineering and commercial team to develop proposals for utility scale BESS projects and provide technical support to address customer needs. A senior level will be considered for candidates with the right experience.
The ideal candidate will be analyzing the received RFPs and turning them into a reliable and competitive solution. It is expected for the candidate to be the technical reference for our customers in terms of all the matters, including the early stages of contract execution.
Key Responsibilities
Be a technical liaison for the Sales team to customers and partners, and an expert resource for general product specifications and value engineering discussions.
Analyze RFP or other customer documentation to determine project scope, schedule, specifications, risk, and technical requirements.
Ensure standardization of design, equipment and approach across projects.
Develop size models and conceptual drawings sets (Electrical single-line diagrams, site layouts, etc.) for BESS projects.
Stay up to date on applicable codes and standards, specifically local electrical and grid interconnection standards.
Preparing a detailed division of responsibilities for scope of works, depending on client requirements.
Specifying concept BOP equipment required.
Prepare technical documentation for proposals and coordinate the bid package preparation with other departments.
Work closely with sales staff, engineering and procurement to ensure complete and shared project understanding and priorities.
Conduct technical presentations and provide clarifications to customers and other departments.
Execute technical exhibits for supply and commissioning contracts.
Interface with customers and utilities during contract negotiations as well as during the early stages of contract execution.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably Electrical); a graduate degree is strongly preferred.
Direct experience in utility-scale battery energy storage systems and/or solar, preferably as an applications engineer where a solid understanding of inverters, transformers, RMU, PPCs and Batteries was acquired.
Basic knowledge of AutoCAD or related software.
Exceptional technical aptitude including the ability to read and fully understand engineering schematics, technical advisory reports and technology reviews.
Solid understanding of regulatory standards in the region related to energy storage and grid-interactive inverters.
Solid understanding of monitoring and control architecture in renewables plants.
Global perspective and awareness, and direct experience working across diverse cultures in a multinational company would be beneficial.
An excellent time manager, able to balance multiple projects and prioritize a broad variety of issues, initiatives and objectives concurrently.
Availability for travelling up to 20 % for customers face meetings and trade show events.
Desirable to have experience or good understanding of electrical studies including but not limited to load flow analysis, short-circuit study, harmonic.
Education/Certifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (preferably Electrical) or any technical or related business discipline is required; a graduate degree is strongly preferred.
