Apprentice URD Technician, 1st Period - IBEW
Job Summary:
This position is part of LUMA’s Apprenticeship Program.Under the supervision of a licensed Journeyman Lineworker, or URD technician, this position will build, install, repair, maintain, construct and troubleshoot underground transmission lines, underground distribution lines, substations and communication systems. We have a variety of different and enriching work available with our team: Distribution, Transmission, Outage Dispatch, Construction, and working on a variety of different projects across the island. This position will be subject to rotating on-call and rotating shifts. All shift types are available with current options as morning, evening, and night shifts.
Job Description:
Handles materials and performs general maintenance tasks, changing, installing or removing transformers and other electrical components. Installation or removal of cables and electrical components in subway de-energized systems (URD).
Operates radial boom devices (RBD) and any other necessary equipment. - Uses proper rigging to raise and lower equipment.
Performs tasks using industry standard tools, materials, codes, methods and safety practices.
Responsible for an industry leading safety culture for self, co-workers and the public.
Promotes proactive safety activities by observing, analyzing, encouraging safe work behaviors, conducting audits, following safety policies and procedures, and correcting unsafe conditions.
Participates in daily tailboard safety meeting to understand associated hazards, their mitigation, assigned tasks and contingency plans.
When necessary, conducts daily tailboard safety meeting and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) detailing the safe work plan associated with planned tasks.
Follows all safety policies and procedures and complies with OSHA rules and regulations.
Supervises the use and operation of powered and hand operated equipment and tools (with appropriate certification), such as:
Forklifts and other lifting devices.
Drills and drilling tools.
Trenching equipment
Ensures that its tools are kept in proper working order and that all employees using the equipment are certified to do so.
Uses all equipment properly and safely, including adhering to traffic regulations when driving a vehicle.
Installs, removes, maintains and repairs de-energized subway distribution equipment and systems.
Ensures task is completed in accordance with instructions and applicable codes in a timely and cost effective manner.
Must perform regularly scheduled on-call shifts, work planned overtime and must respond to 75% of unplanned overtime calls.
Perform major storm restoration work and associated drills as assigned
Additional Job Description:
Education and experience
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
Previous on call and troubleshooting experience is preferred.
Light Hydraulic Crane Certification or greater
Computer experience an asset
Proven safety performance
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid Puerto Rico driver’s license Category 9 is required. However, a valid Puerto Rico license in any other category will be accepted with the commitment to obtain the required license within a period of no more than 90 days of employment to be in compliance.
Permit to Operate Commercial Vehicle from The Transport and Other Public Services Bureau (NTSP, "Negociado de Transporte y Otros Servicios Públicos de Puerto Rico". If you do not have a heavy-duty category license to obtain the required permit, you must commit to obtain one within 90 days of employment to be in compliance
