Local Unit & Position Description
DNV Korea is engaged in classification activities covering newbuilding, certification of materials and components, and vessels in operation, providing services to some of the world’s largest and most technologically advanced shipyards. The Approval Centre Korea (ACK), located in Busan, works closely with other DNV regions to serve a very important Market in Korea, Japan, and beyond. Approval Centre Korea is the technological hub in this environment, providing plan approval and pre-contract services for newbuilding and certification of materials and components. Approval Centre Korea also acts as the technical competence centre providing technical support to both internal and external clients.
The work tasks of an approval engineer in our section typically include, but is not limited to:
Approval of hull structures and outfitting for ships
Support to our field organization and clients
Support development and maintenance of rules and instructions
Pre-contract services and marketing
Participation in development of new designs and new services
Ensure that all project deliverables are submitted in accordance with DNV’s and client’s expectations

Position Qualifications
Engineering degree within a relevant discipline; Master of Science for naval architecture is an advantage
More than 3 years of relevant experience with tankers, gas carriers, or container vessels
Basic to good understanding of classification and statutory requirements
Experience with calculation tools such as Nauticus Hull and Genie is preferred
Willingness to build competence and professional networks within DNV’s global organization
