About the Position
Flinders University is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Archaeology to join the ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Archaeology in the Resources Sector. This $18 million initiative brings together universities, Indigenous partners and industry to transform how cultural heritage is understood and managed in the resources sector.
In this position, you will lead industry-engaged research exploring how mining activities such as drilling and blasting impact archaeological sites and culturally significant places. Working closely with industry partners and Traditional Owners, you will help generate new insights that directly improve cultural heritage assessment, protection and management in active mining landscapes.
In this position, you will:
- Conduct innovative, industry-engaged research examining the impacts of mining activities on cultural heritage sites, contributing to high-quality publications, presentations and research outcomes.
- Collaborate with industry partners, Traditional Owners and researchers to advance sustainable and culturally informed heritage management practices.
- Build strong interdisciplinary partnerships and contribute to the supervision and development of Honours and postgraduate researchers.
- Undertake field-based research, including remote fieldwork and travel across regional, interstate and international locations.
About You:
You are an emerging researcher with a passion for archaeology, cultural heritage and collaborative industry-focused research. You are curious, adaptable and motivated to work across disciplines, bringing a commitment to high-quality research, respectful engagement with diverse stakeholders and a desire to create meaningful impact in the resources and cultural heritage sectors.
You will bring:
- A PhD in Archaeology or a closely related discipline.
- An emerging research profile demonstrated through high-quality peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
- Experience or a demonstrated interest in industry-engaged research, particularly within archaeological, cultural heritage and/or resources sector contexts.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to interdisciplinary research projects and establish effective relationships with academic, industry and community partners.
- A willingness and ability to undertake extended periods of fieldwork in remote environments.
Experience working with Indigenous peoples and an understanding of Indigenous data sovereignty principles will be highly regarded. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are strongly encouraged to apply.
Domestic and international candidates are encouraged to apply. Relocation and visa support are available.
