Job Description

Job Summary

Performs electrical, functional, and performance testing of instruments and assemblies to ensure units meet specifications. This role requires strong technical judgment, hands-on troubleshooting, and ownership of test outcomes. In addition to executing tests, the technician is responsible for diagnosing issues, determining corrective actions, and ensuring instruments meet performance requirements prior to release.

Expected to identify abnormal system behavior, investigate root causes, and take appropriate action, including stopping production flow when results do not align with expected performance, even if technically within specification limits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

Testing and System Validation

  • Reads and interprets test schedules, work orders, specifications, schematics, and diagrams to determine appropriate testing methods and equipment
  • Sets up, configures, and operates a wide range of diagnostic and test equipment including multimeters, flow meters, oscilloscopes, and automated test systems
  • Executes electrical, functional, and performance testing on instruments, subassemblies, and fully integrated systems
  • Validates system-level performance, ensuring all functional and performance requirements are met prior to release

Advanced Troubleshooting and Resolution

  • Serves as the primary escalation point for complex, non-standard, or intermittent failures
  • Diagnoses root causes of issues across electrical, pneumatic, and integrated system interactions
  • Leads resolution of high-complexity problems where standard procedures are insufficient or undefined
  • Determines and implements corrective actions, including calibration, adjustment, repair, or rework
  • Performs moderate to advanced repairs to bring systems into full compliance with specifications

System Ownership and Decision-Making

  • Owns test outcomes for assigned products or production areas, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and quality of results
  • Exercises independent judgment to assess system performance and determine acceptability of results, even when within specification limits
  • Makes stop/go decisions that directly impact production flow based on technical assessment
  • Ensures final product performance meets all operational and quality requirements prior to shipment

Process Ownership and Continuous Improvement

  • Owns defined test processes, procedures, or product lines, ensuring standardization and effective execution across the team
  • Identifies recurring or systemic issues and leads implementation of improvements to test methods, fixtures, and equipment
  • Drives improvements in test efficiency, yield, and repeatability through data analysis and practical application
  • Provides structured feedback to Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing to improve product design, manufacturability, and testability

Cross-Functional Technical Leadership

  • Interfaces with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to resolve product and process issues
  • Provides technical input on product performance, failure modes, and test strategies
  • Supports engineering investigations, validation efforts, and implementation of design or process changes

Team Leadership and Development

  • Acts as a technical leader within the production/test team, providing guidance and support to technicians and assemblers
  • Provides structured training and mentoring to less experienced team members
  • Assists in coordinating test activities and priorities to meet production and quality targets
  • Promotes consistent application of test standards, troubleshooting methods, and best practices

Documentation and Metrics

  • Maintains accurate test records, logs, and documentation in accordance with quality requirements
  • Monitors key performance indicators such as test yield, failure trends, and throughput
  • Identifies trends and drives corrective actions to improve overall production performance
