At bp, safety, reliability, and trust underpin everything we do in aviation. We’re looking for an Assistant Airport Manager to support the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of our into‑plane operations at Wellington Airport.
Reporting to the Site Manager, this role is the operational second‑in‑charge and plays a key leadership role across HSSE, people, and stakeholder engagement in a complex, fast‑moving airport environment.
What you’ll do
Lead compliance with Air bp HSSE standards, programs, and statutory OH&S requirements across the into‑plane operation, with clear accountability for zero injuries, zero spills, and zero damage to plant.
Deliver and monitor key safety performance indicators, including SLPia and Near Miss reporting, and drive proactive safety leadership on site.
Build strong working relationships with airline and airport stakeholders, proactively identifying emerging issues and ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient into‑plane services.
Own operational risk management activities, including Task Breakdowns, Gate‑by‑Gate risk assessments, and implementation of Technical and Safety Bulletins.
Chair monthly into‑plane safety meetings, ensuring actions are documented, tracked, and closed.
Support people performance by managing routine employee matters, contributing to investigations, and coaching Site Supervisors to strengthen capability and role‑model bp Leadership Values and Behaviours.
Monitor staffing, equipment, and business activity to ensure the operation remains fit for purpose, with effective forward planning and recruitment support for operational refuelling staff.
Provide assurance that all Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities are completed as required across both JUHI and into‑plane operations.
Investigate aircraft delays related to into‑plane activities and implement improvements to enhance customer service outcomes.
Act as delegate for the Site Manager during periods of leave or absence.
What you’ll bring
Experience in oil industry operations, with aviation fuelling experience highly regarded.
Strong knowledge of aviation fuels, HSSE requirements, and quality assurance standards.
Proven supervisory and people leadership experience, including coaching, training, and performance management.
Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a complex airport environment.
Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to balance immediate operational demands and longer‑term planning.
