Assistant Director of Engineering

  • Oversee daily engineering operations across guestrooms, public areas, outlets, spa, and back-of-house facilities
  • Develop and manage preventive maintenance programs to ensure equipment reliability and protect asset value
  • Perform and coordinate timely repairs of all hotel systems, equipment, and fixtures
  • Conduct routine inspections to ensure compliance with all safety, fire, life, environmental, and regulatory standards
  • Respond to emergency maintenance needs and critical/VIP guest requests promptly
  • Supervise, schedule, and support the engineering team; assign work orders and prioritize tasks to ensure productivity and timely response
  • Monitor labor logs, attendance, and staffing levels to maintain cost efficiency
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a multi-skilled team while fostering a positive, accountable, and service-driven culture
  • Monitor energy usage and collaborate on sustainability initiatives to control utility costs
  • Assist with budgeting, purchasing, inventory management, and cost control
  • Support capital projects, renovations, and contractor oversight
  • Communicate operational issues to the Director of Engineering and collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless hotel operations
  • Lead by example with a hands-on, guest-focused approach, promoting safety, service excellence, and Fairmont brand values
  • Technical degree or equivalent experience in Engineering or Facilities Management, 1st class operating engineer license is preferred
  • Minimum 5–8 years of progressive luxury hotel engineering experience
  • Previous supervisory or management experience
  • Strong technical expertise in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems
  • Working knowledge of Building Management Systems
