Assistant Director of Student Development & Engagement

POSITION PURPOSE: The Assistant Director of Student Development & Engagement provides leadership, strategic direction, and oversight for student activities, leadership development, and campus engagement initiatives. This position is responsible for creating a vibrant campus experience that fosters student involvement, leadership growth, and a sense of belonging. This position serves as the advisor to the Student Government Association.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership and oversight for all student engagement programming, including campus events and leadership initiatives.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive student engagement strategy aligned with institutional goals.
  • Supervise and evaluate Student Engagement staff, including support staff and student workers.
  • Oversee student organizations, including training and compliance.
  • Plan and execute large-scale campus events and traditions.
  • Collaborate with campus partners (Residence Life, Athletics, Academic Affairs, etc.) to coordinate programming and avoid scheduling conflicts.
  • Manage departmental assessment efforts, including tracking participation and evaluating program effectiveness.
  • Assist with budget planning and monitor expenditures related to student engagement.
  • Serve on campus committees and represent the department as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
  • Provide supervision and direction for the Student Government Association (SGA) as well as for all clubs and organizations under the sponsorship of the SGA.
  • Supervise Student Government Association Executive Officers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to analyze data and assess program effectiveness.
  • Must have an understanding of Student Government, including basic knowledge of Roberts Rules of Order, and have the ability to plan, direct, manage, and oversee the activities and operations of Student Government Association and Student Activities district-wide.


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field
  • 2-4 years of experience in student activities, leadership programs, or campus engagement
  • Experience supervising staff or student workers

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education or related field
  • Experience with student organization advising and large-scale event planning


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Variances from regular working hours may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
  • Busy working environment with numerous interruptions
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.

SALARY $55,000. annually (This is a 12 month position to be paid over 12 months)
