Assistant Engineer - Water Quality

At WSP, we're continuing to grow and develop our expertise in Earth and Environment, operating as a trusted advisor and technical expert on engineering design challenges for our clients across multiple industries. Our team is growing, and as a result we're adding a ASSISTANT Water Quality Modeller to our group. As part of the team in Prairies and North, you'll be responsible for driving forward our ambitious plans to enhance our Earth and Environment service offering through collaboration with a large team of scientists and engineers.

• You’ll be using water quality models to evaluate potential environmental effects of changes to aquatic systems for clients in the mining and natural resource sector
• You’ll support on conceptual model development, data analysis, and detailed numerical modelling using various software such as GoldSim, MIKE3D, CE-QUAL-W2, etc.
• You’ll collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to complete water quality assessments for various clients and sectors
• You’ll support with preparing reports, proposals, and presentations.

• A university Master’s Degree (Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or Earth Science and relevant disciplines). Candidates with PhD degree are preferred, especially with deep understanding of aquatic geochemistry and modelling techniques).
• With minimum 2 plus years of experience.
• Strong understanding of freshwater geochemical data.
• Technical skills in surface water quality assessment and mathematical modelling.
• Experience using surface water quality modelling softwares such as PHREEQC, CE-QUAL, LOADEst.
• Strong skills in Excel, and any coding language (Matlab, R, Python, etc.)
• Experience in mining projects will be preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, and work independently.
