Assistant Foreman

Job: Summary: Assistant Foreman assist supervising daily pierhead, yard, and vessel operations to ensure cargo is handled safely, efficiently, and in accordance with terminal procedures. This role coordinates stevedore assignments, vessel start-up activities, and cargo handling operations while monitoring equipment usage, truck movements, and special cargo handling such as OOG and breakbulk. Assistant Foreman maintains accurate operational records in the Terminal Operating System (TOS), supports gate and vessel documentation when assigned, and ensures compliance with safety regulations, including proper PPE use and safe work practices. The position also reports operational issues, equipment breakdowns, and incidents, while assisting management in maintaining efficient and well-organized terminal operations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Pierhead and Yard Operations

  • Ensure stevedores report as per gang notice and are properly assigned.
  • Coordinate vessel startup, mooring, and operational activities with agents and relevant personnel.
  • Supervise loading, discharging, shifting, and yard operations to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Oversee crane positioning, truck movements, and handling of OOG, breakbulk, damaged, or leaking cargo.
  • Ensure proper use, return, and securing of lashing gear and equipment.
  • Accurately record operational times, container movements, and delays in the TOS.
  • Report equipment breakdowns and operational issues to the Operations Supervisor.
  • Reconcile operational logs and complete required checklists after vessel operations.

Gate, Vessel & Administrative Support (When assigned)

  • Process Gate-In/Gate-Out transactions and verify container, truck, and weight details.
  • Record vessel operational data and container movements in the TOS.
  • Support cargo documentation, billing, and operational reporting as required.

Safety and Compliance

  • Enforce PPE use and safe work practices at all times.
  • Monitor operations to prevent unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Report and document accidents, damage, and near-misses.

Additional Duties

  • Able to work flexible working hours inclusive of weekends and public and bank holidays
  • Perform additional duties of a similar nature as assigned by management to support safe and efficient terminal operations.

Job Qualifications/ Requirements:

  • Minimum Associate Degree or equivalent work experience
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Computer literate
