Job Overview

The Assistant General Manager / Sales Manager serves as a key member of the hotel leadership team, supporting the General Manager in the daily operation of the hotel while driving revenue growth through proactive sales efforts. This position is responsible for delivering exceptional guest experiences, maintaining operational excellence, supporting team development, and generating new business opportunities through local market engagement and account management.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on hospitality professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can effectively balance hotel operations with sales and business development responsibilities.

Essential Functions

Hotel Operations

  • Assist the General Manager in the daily operation of the hotel to ensure exceptional guest service and efficient property performance.
  • Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) as assigned and respond promptly to guest concerns and operational issues.
  • Support, coach, and motivate front desk and housekeeping team members to achieve service and performance standards.
  • Monitor guest satisfaction scores, online reviews, and service recovery efforts to ensure a positive guest experience.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management of hotel associates.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, safety requirements, and brand standards.
  • Monitor hotel occupancy, labor productivity, and operational performance metrics.
  • Maintain a professional and welcoming hotel environment for guests, associates, and visitors.

Hotel Sales

  • Generate hotel revenue through proactive sales activities, networking, prospecting, and relationship building.
  • Develop and maintain corporate, government, group, and extended-stay accounts.
  • Conduct outside sales calls, client meetings, property tours, and community outreach activities.
  • Identify new business opportunities and maintain a strong presence within the local market.
  • Manage group contracts, room blocks, and event coordination to ensure successful execution and guest satisfaction.
  • Maintain accurate sales records, account information, and activity tracking.
  • Collaborate with hotel leadership to develop and execute sales strategies that support occupancy and revenue goals.
  • Represent the hotel at community events, chamber functions, and industry networking opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years of hotel supervisory or management experience required.
  • Previous hotel sales experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build client relationships and generate new business opportunities.
  • Experience with hotel property management systems (PMS), reservation systems, and sales platforms preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work independently in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related business applications.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred for local sales activities.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the property for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work at a computer and utilize standard office equipment.
  • Ability to travel locally for sales appointments, networking events, and community outreach activities.

Work Schedule

This position requires a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs dictate.
