Now Hiring: Safety Supervisor

At First Student, safety is at the center of everything we do. The Safety Supervisor supports safe, compliant, and reliable transportation operations for one or more small to midsize locations.

This role helps oversee driver compliance, safety training, accident investigations, regulatory requirements, and ongoing safety performance. The ideal candidate has strong operations experience, sound judgment, and a commitment to building a safety-first culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support driver hiring and compliance processes, including background checks, drug and alcohol testing, DOT physicals, motor vehicle records, I-9 forms, and other required documentation

  • Provide guidance to location trainers and assist with classroom, recertification, and retraining programs

  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and work-related injuries, including reports, files, follow-up, and preventability reviews

  • Provide post-accident counseling and retraining to drivers as needed

  • Prepare and maintain safety and compliance records

  • Plan and conduct monthly safety meetings and participate in Safety Action Team meetings

  • Support accident review committees and respond to driver appeals

  • Provide safety-related support and training to drivers and attendants

  • Conduct driver road checks and performance observations

  • Review safety trends, prepare reports, and recommend improvements

  • Complete additional duties and projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of operations experience, including transportation operations experience

  • Safety experience preferred

  • Strong commitment to safety and compliance

  • Knowledge of federal and state safety regulations

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Comfortable using operational technology, apps, shared drives, and smart devices

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively with drivers, employees, customers, senior leaders, union officials, and the general public

  • Fluent in English

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to move throughout an office, company facility, and bus parking areas

  • Must be able to use standard office equipment and access filing systems

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in person and by phone

  • Must be able to drive a company or personal vehicle for accident investigations, driver observations, and other company business
