ASSISTANT MANAGER, LANDSCAPES
Sandy Lane Hotel, an AAA Five Diamond, Forbes Five Star exclusive resort and a member of Leading Hotels of the World, is seeking to recruit an Assistant Manager in our Golf Turf and Landscapes Department.
The Role
The Assistant Manager reports to the Landscape Manager and assists with the responsibility of overseeing all landscape and hardscape maintenance on the Sandy Lane Estate, periphery lands and off-site property.
Key responsibilities:
- Performs simple maintenance tasks on equipment for example check and replenish oil and fuels, lubricate grease points, check tire pressure and/or change tire check cutting performance, check safety features.
- Complete ‘sign in/out’ form for all equipment and machinery, which states the condition of the equipment or machines and reports malfunction to the workshop via immediate supervisor.
- Assists with work plans, schedules, oversee regular landscape maintenance and projects and installation such as mowing, trimming, edging and weed control and installation of new garden beds.
- Schedules and performs more highly skilled horticultural procedures such as pruning, trimming of tees, pesticide application planning, and regular fertilization.
- Manages internal estate road maintenance and public highways and Sandy Lane perimeter boundary road daily.
- Maintains safe & effective working practices.
- Assists Landscapes Manager in review of estate landscape standards and suggests modifications and additions to keep horticultural practices sound and improve quality.
- Responsible for ADP time and attendance for Landscape workers on a weekly basis, keeping proper records.
- Responsible for employee leave and vacation rosters.
- Manage casual contracted labour ensuring that they maintain proper record keeping on a daily basis.
- Oversee installation of landscaping materials, laying of sods, planting of trees and shrubs. Selects arranges, oversees the plans of plants and flowering types.
- Prepare and presents stock requests in a timely basis to landscape manager in communication with the Bennett’s Facilities Manager.
- Liaises with Landscape Manager and IPM Manager on the selection and purchasing of chemicals such as pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, and fertilizers.
Our preferred candidate must possess:
- Thorough knowledge of horticultural practices pertaining to pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides etc.
- Knowledge of administration and assist with annual budget preparation.
- Ability to justify requests for materials and monthly chemical operation expenses.
- Ability to identify grass and weed species, insect pests, plant diseases and to prescribe proper control methods such as pesticide application or change in cultural practice.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and use the computer to perform normal administrative duties.
- A valid driver’s license along with three years’ experience in property/facilities management
- Ability to use and operate all necessary vehicles and equipment.
- Knowledge of Sandy Lane Hotel and its facilities
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work under stress calmly and professionally in a busy environment.
The position requires the candidate to be in good physical condition, able to work outdoors and lift up to 50 pounds. The candidate is expected to carry out work, which includes lifting, bending, rotating, stretching, climbing and other strenuous duties.
