Job title: Assistant Principal of Academics
Reports to: Principal
Work Hours: Office Hours-210 days

Job Goals:
To provide the leadership and vision necessary to develop and administer educational programs that optimize available human and material resources to provide successful high-quality educational experiences for students in a safe and orderly environment.


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
 Minimum of 5 years of successful experience as a teacher
 Middle School Teaching Experience is preferred.

 A Master`s Degree is preferred.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Assist the school principal in serving as an instructional leader of the building staff to achieve and sustain high levels of student learning and growth.
 Observe teachers' classroom management, instructional practice, professional development pursuits, and interpersonal and leadership skills, while identifying high- and low-effectiveness performers, providing clear and actionable feedback, resources, and support.
 Assist the school principal in leading the improvement of student achievement by implementing the Dove Model for teacher observation and evaluation with high levels of fidelity.
 Collaborate with the principal to provide ongoing professional development for staff, based on an analysis of feeder school / assigned building data, best practices, and instructional research.
 Model and promote the continuous use of data to inform practice and drive decision-making and instruction.
 Work with counselors, teachers, students, and parents to prepare learning plans for students.
 Work with the principal, teachers, and staff to develop and implement the core components of the school's curriculum.
 Help develop policies and organizational procedures to:
 Implement the instructional program.
 Provide harmonious staff relations.
 Secure a safe physical environment for pupils and staff
 Secure wholesome school-community organizations which work within the school.
 Assist in the day-to-day operations of the school, including, but not limited to reports, discipline, facilities, conferring with students and/or parents, and scheduling standardized testing.
 Participate in personal development activities in order to acquire new skills, further develop instructional leadership expertise and expand knowledge of practices that accelerate student learning.
 Assist in the coordination and implementation of parental and community engagement strategies.
 Use effective, positive interpersonal communication skills.

 Other duties as assigned by the principal
 Counsel and Discipline students.
 Supervise teacher classroom management.
 Coordinate before and after school programs and clubs.
 Monitor the school ground actively for safety checks.
 Actively participate in the full implementation of the DOVE model for School Improvement.
 Perform related duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
 Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.
 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.
 Ability to use a computer, including software, the database used by the district, spreadsheet, and word processing software, calculator, copy machine, and telephone.
 Ability to analyze data
 Ability to use effective interview techniques, effective public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills
 Knowledge of child and adolescent behavior issues and psychology
 Management and supervisory skills and/or training and experience
 Ability to identify problems and proactively find solutions
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 Light Work: may require occasional light lifting.
 Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.
 The position is in the office setting and may involve prolonged work at a desk in one location.
 Moderate travel is required.
