Assistant Trust Accountant – Perpetual Corporate Trust

Perpetual Group is an ASX-listed company (ASX:PPT) headquartered in Sydney, Australia, consisting of 11 leading brands across three distinct businesses: Asset Management, Wealth Management and Corporate Trust.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Investment Operations Team in Managed Funds Services at Perpetual Corporate Trust, a specialist business within the Perpetual Group. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting the Perpetual Corporate Trust Accounting team in providing accurate and timely accounting services for managed investment trusts and securitisation trusts. This role offers a strong opportunity for an individual with experience in financial services and a keen interest in securitisation to become part of the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of periodic management accounts and annual financial statements

  • Perform account reconciliations and posting of journals

  • Assist with calculation of Trust distributions

  • Preparation of Business Activity Statements (BAS) returns

  • Coordinating audit of the financial statements and ensure timely completion of audit.

  • Coordinating preparation and lodgement of income tax return and annual tax reports including AIIR and PAYGW with tax agent.

  • Preparing payment directions

  • Respond to accounting enquiries from internal and external stakeholders

  • Support the Trust Accountants on the delivery of Trust accounting services

  • Maintaining relationships with clients

  • Liaising with key internal stakeholders including Trustee, Trust Manager and Investment Manager for the delivery of services under the relevant accounting engagements

About you

We’re interested in hearing from people who have:

  • A degree in accounting, economics, or finance, with a major in accounting

  • Currently undertaking CA or CPA accreditation

  • At least 18 months experience working in a chartered accounting firm or Big4 environment

Preferred skills and knowledge:

  • Familiarity with Australian trust tax legislation

  • Working knowledge of managed funds and securitisation processes

  • Previous auditing experience

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, including advanced spreadsheet functions and data analysis, as well as hands-on experience using accounting systems such as XERO for day-to-day transactions and financial reporting
