Assistant Yard Manager

The Assistant Yard Manager is responsible for assisting management in all tasks related to leading the department in the achievement of operational objectives regarding quality control, performance, production efficiency, costs, customer service, and workplace safety.

What you're responsible for:

  • Assist the Yard Manager with daily logistics, including coordinating vehicle traffic, loading/unloading materials, and maintaining yard cleanliness
  • Help manage inventory levels, track materials, and document stock movement
  • Assist in overseeing, training, and scheduling yard laborers and operators
  • Ensure all staff follow strict safety procedures and OSHA guidelines
  • Utilize systems in place for tracking data, payroll, and time sheets
  • Operate machinery such as forklifts and skid steers
  • Assist in the scheduling of maintenance for equipment

Education/Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Working knowledge of recycling materials is a plus

Language Skills:

  • Will be required to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos, to write correspondence, memos, and schedules; to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to guests, clients, and fellow staff.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Strong math skills required.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Problem solving, reasoning, and “thinking out of the box” will be a constant requirement; in addition, applying common sense understanding to better serve our guests’ needs.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods of walking and standing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at a time.
  • Occasionally sits, climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crawls or crouches.
  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
  • Extended periods of reaching with hands and arms.
  • Consistently turning and moving of hands, arms, feet, and legs

Environment/Noise:

  • The majority of the work is performed outside in all types of weather, in open/enclosed drivers’ seats or cabs, on land. Is exposed to noise, vibration, dust, oil, dirt, and fumes.

Certificates/Licenses (Preferred Qualifications):

  • A valid driver’s license is required.

Vision Requirements:

  • Regularly uses close, distance, color, and peripheral vision as well as depth perception. Ability to adjust focus.

Job Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Preferences

  • Must be fluent in Spanish
  • Thorough understanding of or the ability to quickly learn production operations and machinery.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Must display strong motivation and resourcefulness; be self-motivated.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Willing to work different shifts
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
