Purpose of Job
CM is a function created in each branch across the region, extracting core credit management and risk leadership in the front office functions to a specific front office team. CM is essential to the efficient and effective leadership of credit risk management and escalation in the front office, and provides full support to our GCIB Coverage and Sector Coverage and AIBD functions, whilst working alongside various teams in APAC region on effective task allocation
Leading credit-related workstreams in the first line of defense and assisting risk teams and first line leadership teams (including BRMD) on current and emerging risk, the core functions include:
End to end credit preparation, analysis, review and completion of core credit process
Ownership of in country / in sector Watch processes in support of regional BRMD requirements and expectations
Credit and portfolio monitoring, including emerging risk analysis by country and sector for material business sectors
Credit cost forecasting and management
Identity RWA fixes and implement by counterparty issue including direction to MGS as required
This Role supports GCIB APAC’s objective of (a) ensuring high quality analysis and monitoring of credits continue post origination; with (b) Borrowers’ financial performance, outlook and credit profile assessed and monitored accurately, consistently and in a timely manner – to help identify emerging risks, themes and opportunities which may warrant additional attention / action by key stakeholders – ultimately to drive better risk and return outcomes for the Bank.
This role is an integral part of this function through the successful completion of a range of day to day tasks by closely working together with MGS and a number of other key stakeholders, including: the management of customer credit & portfolio related requests, periodic review of customer credit and risk profiles, supporting the Relationship Managers and Portfolio Leaders on the credit approval process of new transactions (incorporating deal structuring and documentation, preparing credit submissions, historical and forward looking financial and industry analysis etc.), covenant and other credit control monitoring and managing compliance with internal processes and policies as well as other ad hoc support for Relationship Managers and the Head of CM.
Job Responsibilities:
Strategic
Strategy and Focus: This role supports the ongoing growth & portfolio management of customers within Hong Kong.
Customer Acquisition: Support the on-boarding/origination of new clients as part of our local, regional and global growth plans.
Financial
No specific financial responsibilities. The core role is to support the CM team in conjunction with the Coverage Team Members.
Customer
Management of customer requests: Support the Relationship Managers in managing customer needs.
Direct customer engagement and support: The role will at times have direct engagement with customers, and the employee is expected to be proactive, responsive and supportive at all times.
People:
Collaboration: Develop and maintain strong relationships with coverage team members, product partners and across the network, including MGS, offshore coverage, sector, credit and portfolio teams.
Teamwork: The role will work across a broad range of GCIB members, including RM, sector, product and portfolio teams, Credit, and BRMD, and at all times the employee will demonstrate a proactive, solution-driven and positive approach.
Risk: Trust and faith from our risk representatives is crucial.
Other/ Control:
Account Management: The role will be responsible for preparing credit analysis independently across a portfolio of clients with a focus on credit quality monitoring and the achievement of the Bank’s risk / return targets through:
conducting annual credit reviews and internal rating reviews;
covenant compliance monitoring;
supporting refinancing and other revenue initiatives across the portfolio;
coordinating within the MUFG network;
any other required tasks in accordance with the Bank’s policies and procedures and required to support the broader business
Portfolio Management:
Support the portfolio team in the management of the wider portfolio, including a focus on sector risk / return and other strategic review processes.
Qualification & Experience
The ideal candidate should have:
Solid mathematical knowledge, strong financial analysis acumen, proficiency in Microsoft Office, in particular Microsoft Excel.
Solid / intermediate skills in: (a) credit writing; (b) financial analysis and modelling; and (c) legal documentation and debt structuring.
Possess an understanding of financial and economic markets in Hong Kong and China
Be able to engage in independent research & analysis of customers and markets and apply critical thinking and a high level of attention to detail;
The ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally.

Education & Professional Qualifications:
University graduate. A degree in business, commerce or law and CFA qualification will be an advantage.
Length & Type of Experience:
Minimum 2-5 years’ experience in corporate and institutional lending / debt advisory at a major bank or chartered accounting firm.
Candidates from credit rating agencies, advisory houses, investment management firms or corporate treasury teams will also be considered
