(Associate) Director Global Business Development, China
This is a China-focused Search and Evaluation role as part of Sobi's Global Business Development team, which report into Sobi’s global Strategy and Corporate Development function. The role will be in Shanghai. The bulk of the role is finding new opportunities: proactively searching the Chinese biopharmaceutical ecosystem for China-originated assets, building the relationships that generate proprietary deal flow, and doing the rigorous analytical work to evaluate them. China has become one of the most active global sources of novel, clinically advanced assets available for partnering.
It is a hands-on, analytical role: the role holder will leads evaluations, builds valuations and support due diligence, translating complex scientific, clinical and commercial data into clear investment recommendations. Key Responsibilities
- Deal sourcing: proactively identify, map and prioritise China-origin in-licensing, acquisition and co-development opportunities in Haematology, Immunology and Specialty Care; generate proprietary deal flow through continuous coverage of emerging companies, clinical pipelines, the CDE registry and NMPA developments.
- Analytical evaluation: personally lead end-to-end evaluation; turn complex inputs into a clear, defensible investment view.
- Valuation & due diligence: lead analytical diligence across R&D, Medical Affairs, Commercial, Market Access and Finance. build and own valuations reflecting deal economics (licenses, option structures, JVs and Acquisitions)
- Decision & deal support: produce decision-ready business cases that help lead to board level recommendations; support the structuring of priority transactions with Corporate Development and Legal.
- Relationship building: build senior relationships across biotech, investors, banks and advisors that give Sobi early, differentiated access.
- Track record across the deal lifecycle (sourcing, evaluation, valuation, diligence) from international pharma (ideally in a global strategy, commercial or global R&D role), top-tier consulting, healthcare banking, equity research, VC or PE; typically 6–10+ years, scaling with level.
- Exceptional analytical and quantitative ability; strong scientific, clinical, commercial and financial judgement.
- Strong working knowledge of global drug development and commercialisation, as well as of the China biopharma environment with an established network
- MD or PhD in Life Science field required.
- Fluent in English and Mandarin
- Based in Shanghai, or willing to relocate to Shanghai.
