Position Overview

Reporting to the Academic Director, the Associate Director of Marketing & Communications will lead the Center's marketing, communications, and positioning strategy to strengthen visibility, engagement, and impact. This role combines strategic marketing, brand development, stakeholder engagement, communications, people leadership, and performance measurement to support the Center's growth and influence within IE and globally.

The Associate Director will work closely with the Student Education & Experience vertical, IE Marketing and Communications, as well as other key stakeholders across the university to ensure alignment of messaging, campaigns, engagement strategies, and institutional priorities. The role requires a holistic perspective on the student and community experience, positioning the Center's initiatives within the broader IE ecosystem to maximize impact, strengthen collaboration, and create a cohesive experience across students, faculty, staff, alumni, and partners. While supported by interns and other resources, this position is expected to focus primarily on strategic planning, ecosystem engagement, alignment with institutional strategy, stakeholder management, and impact generation.

    Responsibilities

    Your role as a XXXX will involve:

    Strategic Marketing & Positioning

    • Develop and execute an integrated marketing and communications strategy aligned with the greater institutional strategy and the Center's mission, strategic objectives, and institutional priorities.
    • Strengthen the Center’s brand, visibility, and thought leadership across internal and external audiences, specifically elevating IE’s relevance in human capacity education and experience
    • Ensure the Center's marketing and communications efforts support broader student engagement, community-building, and institutional objectives.
    • Identify opportunities to expand reach, engagement, partnerships, and strategic influence.
    • Translate academic, research, and well-being content into compelling, accessible, and impactful communications.
    • Identify opportunities to integrate the Center's initiatives into wider institutional campaigns, experiences, and strategic initiatives.

    Marketing, Communications & Engagement

    • Lead marketing campaigns and communication initiatives that increase awareness, participation, and impact.
    • Oversee content development across websites, digital channels, newsletters, social media, reports, presentations, events, and promotional materials.
    • Collaborate closely with IE Marketing & Communications teams to maximize visibility, consistency, and institutional alignment.
    • Coordinate with Student Education & Experience and other key departments to ensure a coherent and integrated approach to student-facing communications and engagement.
    • Develop communication plans that contribute to a seamless experience across the student, faculty, staff, alumni, and partner journey.
    • Support the promotion of academic programs, events, research initiatives, partnerships, and community activities.

    Stakeholder & Community Development

    • Build and maintain strong relationships across IE and with external stakeholders to strengthen collaboration, participation, and engagement.
    • Foster greater integration of the Center across schools, departments, centers, student-facing units, alumni relations, and corporate partners.
    • Serve as a connector across the IE ecosystem, identifying opportunities for collaboration, amplification, and shared value creation.
    • Support cross-functional initiatives that strengthen community engagement, belonging, well-being, and student success.
    • Represent and advocate for the Center's mission and initiatives both internally and externally.

    Operations & Project Management

    • Develop systems, processes, and frameworks that improve coordination, efficiency, scalability, and execution.
    • Manage communication calendars, campaigns, projects, vendors, agencies, and external partners.
    • Support budget planning, monitoring, and resource management related to marketing and communications activities.
    • Establish workflows and governance mechanisms that facilitate collaboration across stakeholders and reduce duplication of effort.

    People Leadership

    • Lead, coach, and develop marketing and communications team members, interns, and contributors.
    • Foster a high-performing, collaborative, and well-being-centered team culture.
    • Set priorities, objectives, and performance expectations aligned with the Center's strategic goals.
    • Support talent development, resource allocation, and effective team execution.

    Analytics & Impact

    • Define and track KPIs related to visibility, engagement, participation, partnerships, and impact.
    • Develop dashboards and reporting mechanisms to inform strategic decision-making.
    • Measure the effectiveness of campaigns, initiatives, and stakeholder engagement efforts.
    • Use data, insights, and stakeholder feedback to continuously improve performance and maximize impact.

    Qualifications

    To thrive in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

    Education & Experience

    • Master's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Public Relations, Strategic Communications, or a related field.
    • 4-6 years of relevant experience in marketing, communications, brand management, stakeholder engagement, community building, or related areas.
    • Experience developing strategic marketing and communication plans and managing complex, cross-functional projects.
    • Experience within higher education, foundations, research institutions, social impact organizations, or purpose-driven environments is highly desirable.

    Skills

    • Strategic thinking with strong execution capabilities.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Spanish is highly desirable.
    • Strong stakeholder management, relationship-building, and influencing skills.
