Associate Manager - Mechanical Engineer

This is a role within Systems' Engineering group. A successful incumbent is expected to (i) Work independently and manage high complexity projects and large strategic project initiatives; mentor and support other engineers on projects; work independently and collaboratively to implement design and process improvement projects while regularly tracking and reporting progress, and (ii) Develop an strategic understanding of company products, including competitive products, appropriate uses, general designs, manufacturing processes, and acceptable design modifications; develop understanding of product liability requirements and implement liability mitigation.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work independently and manage high complexity projects and large strategic project initiatives; mentor and support other engineers on projects; work independently and collaboratively to implement design and process improvement projects while regularly tracking and reporting progress
- Develop an strategic understanding of company products, including competitive products, appropriate uses, general designs, manufacturing processes, and acceptable design modifications; develop understanding of product liability requirements and implement liability mitigation
- Analyze, utilize and update ERP configuration data within the company's enterprise resource program (ERP) to process complex special customer orders/ETOs and release work orders and special drawings to manufacturing and analyze data for potential new projects
- Apply advanced engineering principles and concepts to the design process for various products
- Create and revise advanced models and assemblies using 3D CAD software; update production drawings in response to engineering design changes and other continuous improvement initiatives including new product development
- Develop an advanced understanding of engineering work flows to support production and other departments
- Create complex engineering change notices (ECNs), distribute for approval, and process as required
- Coordinate with production to identify process and product improvements; provide recommendations for improvements to management and implement as required
- Conceptualize, develop prototypes, test, and validate designs for complex products; select and test materials and components that will be suitable for products
- Support technical service group in the troubleshooting and root cause analysis around product issues
- Comply with health and safety guidelines and rules; managers should also ensure compliance across their teams.
- Protect Chamberlain Group’s and Systems’ reputation by keeping information confidential.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reading professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 7+ years of related experience
- Experience supervising, leading teams, or mentoring engineers
- Experience or familiarity with hydraulics, pneumatics, control systems, structural steel, or welded fabrications
- Project management experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of CAD, 2D and 3D
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Working knowledge of project management principles
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Professional Engineering License
- Six Sigma Green Belt
- Experience in a metal fabrication environment
- Experience in design of mechanical components and assemblies
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D modeling software
- Patent and intellectual property knowledge or experience
- General knowledge of ERP/MRP software is beneficial
