Associate / Scientist - Cardiometabolic Research

The Cardiometabolic research (CMR) of Eli Lilly and Company focuses on the discovery of biological, small molecule and genetic therapeutics for the treatment of diabetes, obesity and associated complications.
We are seeking a motivated scientist to join a highly collaborative drug discovery and development team in the Cardiovascular and Renal research group in Indianapolis. The successful candidate will apply strong molecular and cellular laboratory skills to support research efforts and pipeline projects focused on vascular inflammation. This individual will contribute to the development, execution, and optimization of in vitro biochemical and cellular assays and will work closely with scientists across teams to advance project and department goals.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and implement in vitro biochemical and cell-based experiments to support preclinical characterization and evaluation of relevant targets and pathways using pharmacological agents, including small molecules, antibodies, peptides, and siRNAs.
- Perform molecular and biochemical assessments on samples from tissues and cells including RNA/DNA isolation and analysis, gene and protein expression analyses, and other analytical techniques.
- Perform gene expression manipulations including silencing, transient transfections, and stable cell line generation.
- Perform cell-based assays including cytokine stimulation, immunophenotypic characterization by flow cytometry, and related cellular analyses.
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively both independently and within cross-functional project teams, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Show adaptability by learning new techniques, developing biological understanding, and contributing to a data-driven research environment.
- Maintain accurate records, analyze data, and communicate results in written and oral formats while working in compliance with Lilly Research policies and required training expectations.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field
- 1 year in vitro experience in industry, academia or related field

Additional Skills/Preferences
- A background in biology, cell/molecular biology and metabolic disease is a plus
- Masters degree in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or related field
- Hands-on experience with gene editing or gene expression analysis methods, including gDNA/RNA isolation, qPCR, ddPCR, and protein expression analysis such as western blot, JESS, ELISA, or MSD, along with flow cytometry is preferred.
- Hands-on experience in cellular and molecular biology techniques and in vitro assay execution gained through academic research, internships, or industry experience
- Experience with complex cell culture systems, primary culture, or co-culture
- Proficiency in cell biology techniques including cell culture, transfection, FACS, and cell-based assays
- Experience with various assay detection technologies (fluorescence, luminescence, alpha-screen)
- Willingness to learn and help implement new technologies and laboratory methods.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on cross-functional teams and research projects.
- Strong communication skills and experience presenting data in a team environment
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a results-oriented research team; highly organized with significant attention to detail.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$65,250 - $169,400Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
