Automotive Worker

This position is located at the James E Van Zandt VA Medical Center, in the vehicle maintenance section (Garage) and is under the direct supervision of the Boiler Plant and Garage Supervisor. The incumbent is responsible for transportation, landscaping, snow removal and installs, maintains, repairs and performs preventive maintenance on a wide variety of new and existing equipment that is used.

Major duties include, but may not be limited to: Performs maintenance, repairs, and overhaul on station owned and DAV vehicles to include, but not limited to buses, card, trucks, and mobile equipment the have utility systems or special features or controls designed for a specific purpose and combustion-powered automotive vehicles. Tear down, adjust, repair, reassemble, and operational checks on components of equipment. Identify and locate defective and worn equipment parts, components and accessories. Performs and completes engine tune-ups, setting timing, distributors and components, and brake system adjustments, replacement of brake pads/shoes and rotors/drums. Gardening duties, maintaining 23 acres of lawn and ornamental trees and shrubs, planting new trees and shrubs, repairing and reseeding damaged lawn areas. Campus wide mowing and snow removal operations. Required to operate buses, with wheelchair lifts, with a 29-passenger capability. Responsible for Community Living Center (CLC) non-clinical outing trips and shuttle trips to Pittsburgh. Performs other duties as assigned. Must have a valid Class "B" Commercial Pennsylvania driver's license (CDL) with air brake and passenger endorsements. Work Schedule: 8:00am- 4:30pm, Monday- Friday.
