The Opportunity
The Recreation Aide assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates resident-centered recreation and leisure programs in accordance with established care plans. The Recreation Aide works within their scope of education, training, and demonstrated competencies, following AgeCare policies and procedures and the Collaborative Care Model.
What You Will Do
Assist in the planning, coordination, and delivery of engaging recreation and leisure programs in collaboration with the Recreation Manager and Executive Director.
Create a welcoming, inclusive environment that encourages resident participation, social connection, and overall well-being.
Support resident assessments and ongoing evaluation of engagement, preferences, and program effectiveness.
Maintain accurate documentation, including resident participation records, program notes, and required departmental charting.
Build and maintain positive, respectful relationships with residents, families, volunteers, and interdisciplinary team members.
Facilitate resident participation in scheduled programs, special events, and community outings, including transportation support as required.
Contribute to daily program preparation and delivery, while supporting meal service and other resident-centred routines as needed.
What You Bring
Diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology, or a related field (required), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Previous experience working with seniors in a recreation, health care, or community setting is considered an asset.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build meaningful connections with residents and contribute to a positive, engaging environment.
Effective written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with residents, families, and team members.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Compassionate, energetic, and collaborative team player with a resident-centered approach to care.
Valid driver’s license with appropriate classification to transport residents and operate facility transportation vehicles, in accordance with provincial requirements.
Must be able to provide a current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Record Check, or be willing to obtain one.
