Backend Engineer (Kotlin)

You will design, develop and optimize backend services to support high-traffic, high-performance applications. You will build and maintain microservices, databases and APIs (REST/gRPC), diagnose and resolve performance issues, and ensure systems are highly available and scalable. You will write maintainable code, participate in code reviews, and collaborate with product, frontend and QA to deliver projects. You will also work with cloud deployments and CI/CD to automate releases and may occasionally travel to Hong Kong for collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Design develop and optimize core backend systems including payment gateway settlement mobile POS integration and financial services API
  • Develop high-performance backend services and APIs using Kotlin or Java (REST/gRPC)
  • Participate in backend architecture design to ensure high availability and scalability
  • Diagnose and optimize system performance and ensure stable operation
  • Collaborate with frontend product and test teams to drive project delivery
  • Write high-quality maintainable code and participate in code reviews
  • Keep up with backend and cloud technology trends

Requirements

  • 5 years or more backend development experience with Kotlin or Java
  • Familiarity with microservice architecture cloud deployment (AWS GCP) and CI/CD workflows (GitHub Actions)
  • Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL MySQL and Redis
  • Familiarity with Docker Kubernetes and message queue systems such as Kafka
  • Experience with API design (REST gRPC) and version control (GitHub)
  • Familiarity with agile development processes and teamwork
  • Good English communication skills (Mandarin or Cantonese is a plus)
  • Background in fintech payments or settlement systems is preferred
  • Experience with high-concurrency large-scale systems is a plus
  • Knowledge of DevOps and automation for deployments and operations is a plus
  • Experience in distributed system or data architecture design is a plus
