Bank Chef

Priory Hospital Ayr Clinic is seeking a Bank Chef to join our catering team.

Based in Ayr, Ayrshire, the clinic is a low secure service supporting males and females with mental health diagnoses and/or personality disorders, The site benefits from good transport links, including nearby bus and train stations and easy access to Ayr town centre.
You’ll be part of a dedicated and compassionate team, all working together to ensure the smooth running of the hospital and to support the wellbeing of our patients. While your role doesn’t involve providing direct care, your contribution is vital in helping to maintain a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for everyone. Whether you're assisting with day-to-day operations, keeping things organised, or ensuring our spaces are well looked after, your support plays an important part in creating a positive experience for those who live and work here.
  • Undertakes the planning, preparation and cooking of meals, taking account of any special requests or dietary requirements within the unit.
  • Ensuring operational standards comply with the company’s Food Safety policies and guidelines and statutory regulations.
  • Takes full shift responsibility for the catering operation (in the absence of the Head Chef).
  • Ensures the cost-effective and efficient control of stock including placing orders for food products and the checking/reconciliation of deliveries.
  • Monitors and adapts food production ensuring that there is a minimum amount of wasted food.

  • The ideal candidate will be confident in a busy kitchen, with good numeracy and literacy skills, an NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent), and a basic food hygiene certificate.
  • You should be well organised, able to manage your own workload, and work effectively within set procedures, with strong communication skills and a focus on delivering excellent service.
  • Experience working in a professional kitchen, preparing meals for large groups, managing time effectively, and working within budget is essential. Awareness of allergens and specialist diets, such as dysphagia, is desirable.
