Position Overview
The Behavioral Health Peer Advocate collaborates with the treatment team to help implement treatment plans and support individuals during their recovery journey. This role provides peer support, advocacy, recovery services, and case management to clients and caregivers. The position helps participants prepare for discharge from the hospital and reconnect with community-based behavioral health services and resources. The Behavioral Health Peer Advocate serves as a mentor, advocate, ally, and source of encouragement for participants.
This position is located in Staten Island, New York.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the treatment team to facilitate implementation of treatment plans
- Offer peer support services before discharge and after participants return to their communities
- Provide peer support, advocacy, and recovery services to clients and caregivers
- Develop trusting relationships with participants as a role model, mentor, advocate, and ally
- Communicate hope and encouragement to support participant readiness for discharge and community reintegration
- Provide case management services to identified clients
- Assist individuals with independent living skills, coping skills, and community adjustment
- Connect participants with outpatient behavioral health services and community resources
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Must be certified or working toward certification as a Recovery Peer Advocate
- 1–3 years of relevant experience required
- Ability to provide peer support, advocacy, and recovery services
- Ability to collaborate with a treatment team
