Renewal Falls Recovery Center, in partnership with Ascension Recovery Services (ARS), is opening a premier behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment facility in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

As a founding leader, the Behavioral Health Supervisor will play a critical role in creating program culture, developing staff, ensuring operational excellence, and delivering an exceptional patient experience.


About the Role

The Behavioral Health Supervisor provides leadership, supervision, and operational oversight of the Recovery Support Services team. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic treatment environment while supporting staff development, program consistency, patient engagement, and regulatory compliance.

The Behavioral Health Supervisor serves as a key member of the leadership team and works collaboratively with clinical, nursing, admissions, and operations staff to ensure high-quality patient care and exceptional service delivery.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Development

  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, and leadership to Behavioral Health Technicians, Recovery Support Specialists, and related support staff.
  • Conduct regular supervision meetings, performance coaching, and annual evaluations.
  • Assist with recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and training of Recovery Support staff.
  • Develop schedules and staffing plans that ensure safe and effective program coverage.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and patient-centered care.
  • Monitor employee performance and address concerns in partnership with leadership and Human Resources.

Program Operations

  • Oversee day-to-day Recovery Support operations and patient engagement activities.
  • Ensure consistency in program structure, schedules, and daily routines.
  • Serve as a resource for staff regarding patient concerns, behavioral issues, and operational challenges.
  • Assist with development and implementation of policies, procedures, workflows, and best practices.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and quality improvement initiatives.

Patient Care & Milieu Management

  • Ensure a safe, structured, and therapeutic treatment environment.
  • Support patient orientation and integration into the program.
  • Facilitate educational, recovery-focused, and psychoeducational groups as assigned.
  • Monitor patient participation, engagement, and adherence to program expectations.
  • Assist with crisis intervention, de-escalation, and behavioral management.
  • Support recreational, wellness, and recovery-oriented activities.
  • Administer and document urine drug screens in accordance with policy.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, weights, and other approved observations.
  • Provide transportation support when necessary and approved.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation of incidents, observations, patient interactions, and shift activities.
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards, state regulations, licensing requirements, and company policies.
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and accreditation readiness activities.
  • Assist with monitoring staff completion of required training and competencies.

Collaboration

  • Partner with Nursing, Clinical, Admissions, and Executive Leadership teams.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings.
  • Communicate effectively regarding patient concerns, operational needs, and program improvements.
  • Support organizational initiatives and special projects as assigned.



Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Behavioral Health, Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, residential treatment, or healthcare.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred

  • Experience in residential substance use disorder treatment.
  • Experience working with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Knowledge of ASAM criteria and recovery-oriented systems of care.
  • Experience supporting Joint Commission accreditation and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Peer Recovery Specialist certification or behavioral health credentials.



Work Conditions

Work Environment

  • Primarily indoors in a climate-controlled treatment facility.
  • Frequent interaction with patients, families, visitors, and interdisciplinary team members.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, reach, and move throughout the facility.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to respond appropriately during emergency or crisis situations.

  • Ability to remain calm and effective during crisis situations.
  • Strong emotional resilience and professional judgment.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced treatment environment.
