Role Overview

The BIM Detailer II supports large-scale construction projects through 3D modeling, MEP coordination, and the creation of detailed shop and spool drawings for plumbing and mechanical piping systems. The role ensures accuracy, efficiency, and collaboration across design and construction teams by identifying and resolving design conflicts and maintaining organized project documentation.

Working under the direction of senior detailers and VDC leads, the Detailer II builds constructible models and prefabrication-ready spool drawings using Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks. This is a fully remote role with regular collaboration across distributed VDC and project teams.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop 3D BIM models of plumbing and mechanical piping systems using Revit MEP and/or AutoCAD Fabrication (CADmep)
  • Produce accurate spool drawings, shop drawings, and prefabrication data directly from the model for use by field and fab-shop crews
  • Coordinate plumbing and piping systems with structural, architectural, and other MEP trades to identify and resolve conflicts
  • Run and resolve clash detection using Navisworks under the direction of senior detailers and VDC leads
  • Incorporate submittal data, including pipe specs, fittings, valves, and fixtures, into BIM models accurately, and generate material lists and cut sheets from the model
  • Maintain model integrity, naming standards, and level of development requirements throughout the project lifecycle
  • Provide support on construction projects including receiving, logging, tracking, expediting, and distributing shop drawings, RFIs, and other project documentation
  • Update models to reflect design changes, RFI responses, and field revisions, and distribute revised files to the project team
  • Follow direction from senior detailers and apply established VDC and detailing workflows and standards

Required Background

  • 2 + years of relevant BIM detailing experience in plumbing and/or mechanical piping systems
  • High School diploma or GED required; degree or trade apprenticeship in a related technical field preferred
  • Proficiency in Revit MEP and/or AutoCAD Fabrication (CADmep)
  • Working knowledge of Navisworks for clash detection and multi-trade coordination
  • Understanding of commercial plumbing and mechanical piping systems and field installation methods
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, plumbing and mechanical plans, and specifications
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow precise instructions and established standards
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with other trades and communicate modeling and installation requirements clearly
  • Proactive, organized, and able to manage multiple project tasks in a fully remote setting
  • Authorization to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available for this position
  • Prior experience at a commercial mechanical or plumbing subcontractor (Preferred)
  • Hospital, data center, or life sciences project experience (Preferred)
  • Fabrication shop or field plumbing/piping experience (Preferred)
  • Bilingual English and Spanish (Preferred)
