BIM Technician

Hoffman Construction is seeking a BIM Technician to join the BIM Department. Reporting to the BIM Manager, this role works closely with BIM Coordinators and project-level management teams to produce day-to-day construction models and related content for use by project stakeholders.

This is a hybrid position, split between the project site and the office.

Salary Range: $85,000-$120,000 DOE

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Receive, process, and archive model files from designers, project team members, and trade subcontractors.
  • Compile and publish federated models using Navisworks Manage.
  • Maintain and manage model-building automation tools.
  • Facilitate 3D model exchange and coordination with consultants, contractors, and fabricators.
  • Support cross-functional technology collaboration across the project team, including clients, design staff, builders, consultants, and subcontractors. Maintain model libraries throughout the project lifecycle and create archive record models at completion.

Qualifications:

Professional Experience and Education:

  • Two to four (2-4) years’ experience in architectural, engineering, or construction (AEC) industry.
  • Specific experience in industrial and/or hi-tech semiconductor manufacturing projects is preferred.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction, or related industry preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams), with a working understanding of computer network environments.
  • Proficient in batch file scripting, Python, Dynamo, and BIM Flow (iConstruct).
  • Proficient in project management software (Prolog, Procore, E-Builder) and Bluebeam.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Autodesk Navisworks Manage, including Clash Detection, Quantification, and Timeliner tools.
  • Experience administering and organizing Autodesk Forma (formerly known as ACC) and other file-sharing platforms.
  • Familiarity with the CSI specification system and experience organizing technical data with precision and consistency.
  • Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM), AutoCAD, and Navisworks preferred.
  • Experience with Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) methods and digital fabrication preferred.
  • Training in design document reading, specifications, survey theory, and field techniques.

    Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Environment & Mobility

    • Must work in both office and active construction site environments, spending more than 50% of time stationary.

    • Must access all site areas and levels, including climbing stairs, ascending/descending ladders, and entering confined or underground spaces.

    • Must work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

  • Strength & Dexterity

    • Must lift or manipulate up to 50 lbs to a height of three feet and carry or push it 50–100 feet. Frequent bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, and crawling required for examining project work. Constantly operates computers and standard office equipment.

  • Sensory

    • Vision: Close vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment required for both screen-based and outdoor environments.
    • Hearing: Must tolerate proximity to loud equipment; hearing protection required as needed. Regular communication with colleagues and customers in office, site, and digital meeting settings.
    • Speech: Must communicate plans, protocols, directives, and SOPs related to project scope clearly in English.
  • Transportation

    • Must hold a valid driver's license and safely operate a vehicle.

  • Cognitive

    • Must apply independent judgment, critical thinking, and organizational skills to analyze data, transcribe information, interpret printed and digital documents, and determine the best method to accomplish desired results.
