Business Development & Capture Associate (DoD)

Aretum is seeking a motivated Business Development & Capture Associate to support business development, capture, and proposal activities focused on Department of Defense (DoD) opportunities. This individual will help identify, research, qualify, and advance new opportunities; support capture planning and solution development; and contribute to compliant, compelling proposal responses.

The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working across multiple priorities in a fast-paced federal contracting environment. This role will partner closely with business development leaders, capture managers, proposal managers, technical subject matter experts, and pricing personnel to help position Aretum for growth within the DoD market.

Due to the nature of our work as a federal consulting organization, employees may be expected to handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and must adhere to applicable safeguarding, security, and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support business development and capture activities for assigned DoD opportunities from early identification through proposal submission.
  • Research and monitor federal procurement sources, market intelligence tools, customer activity, and industry developments to identify and assess potential opportunities.
  • Assist with opportunity qualification, account research, customer intelligence gathering, competitor analysis, and capture planning.
  • Maintain accurate opportunity records, pursuit documentation, action items, and supporting materials in SharePoint and other business-development systems.
  • Participate in pipeline reviews, gate reviews, capture meetings, solutioning sessions, pricing discussions, and proposal strategy discussions.
  • Coordinate data calls, information requests, and subject matter expert interviews to support capture and proposal development.
  • Help develop and maintain capture artifacts, including customer profiles, competitive assessments, win themes, discriminators, solution outlines, and pursuit schedules.
  • Support the development of proposal response outlines, compliance matrices, templates, and content plans based on solicitation instructions and evaluation criteria.
  • Draft, edit, and revise proposal content using approved corporate messaging, customer knowledge, win themes, and differentiators.
  • Create clear, compliant, and persuasive content that communicates Aretum’s technical approach, management approach, past performance, value proposition, and customer benefits.
  • Review proposal content for compliance, clarity, consistency, completeness, tone, and alignment with the corporate writing style guide.
  • Identify content gaps, compliance risks, and inconsistencies, and work with proposal leadership and contributors to resolve them.
  • Maintain and update proposal boilerplate, reusable content, past-performance materials, resumes, graphics inputs, and other business-development collateral.
  • Support proposal graphics development by helping identify visual concepts, organize source material, and coordinate content with graphic-design resources.
  • Participate in proposal meetings, including strategy sessions, kickoffs, daily standups, content reviews, color-team reviews, and lessons-learned discussions.
  • Coordinate assigned project tasks, track deliverables and deadlines, follow up with contributors, and escalate risks that may affect pursuit or proposal schedules.
  • Support process-improvement initiatives across business development, capture, proposal management, data calls, and knowledge management.
  • Perform other related duties in support of Aretum’s growth strategy and business-development objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, English, marketing, public administration, international relations, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Two or more years of relevant experience supporting business development, capture, proposals, federal contracting, consulting, project coordination, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with the federal contracting lifecycle, including opportunity identification, capture planning, proposal development, and solicitation response processes.
  • Strong written communication, editing, research, and document-development skills.
  • Ability to analyze solicitation requirements, organize information, and develop clear, structured, and compliant written materials.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, contributors, and deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Experience working with SharePoint or similar document-management and collaboration platforms.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, including executives, technical personnel, pricing teams, and subject matter experts.
  • Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, professionalism, and a commitment to meeting deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Department of Defense business development, capture, proposal, or program-delivery efforts.
  • Experience with GovWin, Bloomberg Government, SeaPort NxG, OASIS+, GSA Multiple Award Schedule (MAS), or similar federal market-intelligence and contracting vehicles.
  • Experience using federal procurement and market-research resources, including SAM.gov, USAspending.gov, FPDS, or other government acquisition databases.
  • Experience supporting proposal development in a federal contractor, professional-services, consulting, technology, defense, or homeland-security environment.
  • Familiarity with Shipley-based capture or proposal best practices.
  • Experience developing proposal outlines, compliance matrices, proposal graphics inputs, boilerplate content, resumes, past-performance writeups, or management and technical volumes.
  • Knowledge of DoD customers, mission areas, acquisition processes, contract vehicles, or technical services markets.

Travel Requirements

This is a hybrid position, with work performed both remotely and at designated client or corporate locations, as needed. Travel requirements may vary depending on project assignments, client meetings, or internal collaboration and will be communicated in advance whenever possible.
