Business Development Manager - Electromechanical Components

We are partnering with a client that designs and builds electro\-mechanical components for device and machinery makers around the globe, and we are looking for a Business Development Manager to take the reins of their US subsidiary. Although the parent company calls Switzerland home, its reach extends well beyond, across numerous international markets. The American arm opened its doors in 2009 and has outpaced typical market growth ever since, with an ongoing flow of inventive products that occupy distinctive niches keeping the door open to considerable further gains.

The person selected will own the US operation outright. That means growing commercial sales across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, keeping daily operations running smoothly, answering for the numbers, and leading a small, dedicated team of three.

Responsibilities<\/span><\/b>

You will be the <\/span>engine room of this business, the <\/span>person most responsible for keeping its <\/span>momentum going and pushing it forward. <\/span>Everything from end to end of the <\/span>business development cycle lands on <\/span>your desk, together with the job of <\/span>charting where the company heads next, <\/span>keeping watch over each part of its <\/span>operations, and standing accountable <\/span>for how it performs and what it is <\/span>worth years down the line. The main <\/span>threads of the role run as follows:<\/span>

  • Strategic Planning:<\/span><\/b> Spell <\/span>out where the US business is going, <\/span>what it stands for, and how it gets <\/span>there over the years ahead. Rally <\/span>everyone around the same priorities and <\/span>keep the board, shareholders, and other <\/span>stakeholders informed of how things <\/span>are tracking.<\/span>
    <\/li>
  • Sales & Commercial Leadership:<\/span><\/b> Run <\/span>point on negotiations, the renewal of <\/span>existing contracts, and the <\/span>drafting of proposals. Win fresh <\/span>accounts and feed what customers <\/span>tell you back into the business so that <\/span>products and services keep improving.<\/span>

  • Financial Management:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>Answer for the P&L, the budget, the <\/span>forecasts, and the monthly numbers, <\/span>doing so side by side with the CFO <\/span>based at headquarters.<\/span>

  • Leadership & Culture:<\/span><\/b> Recruit, <\/span>develop, and steer the team. Set <\/span>expectations around culture, values, <\/span>and performance, and <\/span>make inclusion and ethics a visible <\/span>part of how the company <\/span>operates.<\/span>
    <\/li>
  • Growth & Business Development:<\/span><\/b> Spot <\/span>openings in untapped markets and <\/span>applications, then chase them down. Map <\/span>out how to enter those markets, bring <\/span>new products to them, and strike <\/span>partnerships with channel allies. Be <\/span>the face of the company <\/span>at trade fairs and industry events.<\/span>

  • Key Account Management:<\/span><\/b> Forge and <\/span>protect senior relationships inside the <\/span>company's most important customers. Be <\/span>the person things escalate <\/span>to when an account hits trouble, <\/span>pulling together whatever <\/span>internal help is needed to fix it fast.<\/span>
    <\/li>
  • Operations & Cross\-Functional Coordination:<\/span><\/b> Keep an eye on how every <\/span>function performs, sales, marketing, <\/span>product, and finance alike. <\/span>Partner closely with the head\-office <\/span>groups handling R&D, <\/span>Engineering, Product Management, <\/span>Finance, and Quality.<\/span>

  • Technical Support & Troubleshooting:<\/span><\/b> Roll up your sleeves on electronic and <\/span>mechanical product <\/span>questions, sorting out technical snags <\/span>whenever they crop up.<\/span>

  • Marketing & Market Intelligence:<\/span><\/b> <\/span>Keep the CRM honest with up\-to\-date <\/span>pipeline figures and forecasts. Put <\/span>together account performance reports <\/span>and business reviews. Watch what <\/span>competitors, the wider sector, and <\/span>customers are doing, and let that steer <\/span>product and pricing calls.<\/span>

    Requirements<\/h3>

    Essential
    <\/p>

    • Able to work in fully fluent professional English
      <\/li>
    • At least seven years selling in a capacity such as Key Account Manager, Business Development Manager, or Area Sales Manager
      <\/li>
    • Holds a valid driver's license
      <\/li>
    • Skilled at negotiating, presenting, and forming relationships
      <\/li>
    • Comfortable traveling 20% or more of the time, with two or three trips a year to the Swiss head office
      <\/li>
    • Holds a bachelor's or college qualification and brings ten or more years of working experience
      <\/li>
    • Knows their way around CRM tools, enterprise sales processes, and Microsoft Office
      <\/li>
    • Already lives in Hagerstown, MD, or is prepared to move there
      <\/li>
    • Works well with people up and down the organization and has the interpersonal strength to back it
      <\/li>
    • Can point to a record of finding deals, closing them, and landing revenue and earnings targets
      <\/li>
    • Happy to operate within the structures, processes, and team dynamics that already exist and to build on them

      Preferred

      • A firm technical handle on the particular products in question

      • An approachable, communicative way of working that values colleagues and invites collaboration as equals

      • A degree in Mechatronic Engineering or a related technical subject

      • Some prior experience running or coordinating a small team
        <\/li>
      • Roots in marketing, business administration, or some combination of commercial and technical study

      • Experience in the consultative sale of technical components to firms that build devices and machinery
