Overview:

Prysmian is seeking a technically strong, detail-oriented engineer with a passion for collaboration and continuous improvement to join our Specialties, Industrial & Construction design team.

Reporting to the Design Engineering Manager, this role is at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, and customer engagement. You will transform technical requirements into manufacturable cable designs—balancing performance, cost, and compliance—while helping drive innovation across our product portfolio.

This is not just a design role. It is a business-connected engineering position that influences product capability, plant efficiency, and customer success.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Product Design & Execution
    • Develop and maintain cable designs, specifications, drawings, and data sheets
    • Translate customer requirements and industry standards into manufacturable solutions
    • Utilize in-house cable design systems (Cable Builder and/or Common Analisi) to generate BOM’s and routings for manufacturing of Prysmian products at its facilities
  • Cost & Commercial Support
    • Generate accurate cost models for quotations and production
    • Analyze cost drivers and support benchmarking across facilities
    • Partner with commercial teams to deliver competitive solutions
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Work closely with manufacturing, operations, and commercial teams to ensure efficient execution
    • Support plant capability assessments and manufacturability decisions
    • Provide technical input to improve throughput, quality, and product consistency
  • Governance & Compliance
    • Maintain design systems, technical instructions (TIs), SOPs, and product data integrity
    • Ensure all designs comply with applicable standards (UL, CSA, ICEA, and others)
    • Stay current on evolving regulatory and certification requirements
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement
    • Identify opportunities to enhance products, reduce cost, and improve performance
    • Support new product development and experimental trials, including documentation and execution
    • Maintain strong operating knowledge of appropriate industry standards and including all updates as well as ICEA, UL, CSA and other certification listings
    • Prepare design documentation for factory level experimental trials/product development concerning new compound implementation and associated cable products.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 2–4 years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills
  • Effective communication skills across all levels — from shop floor to leadership
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access); experience with ERP or database management preferred.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Works out of a normal office environment with standard office equipment available.
  • Will be required to sit, bend, kneel, squat, use keyboard, read, write, and speak fluently.
  • Employee will regularly be required to lift and carry objects of 10-25 pounds as needed.
  • Employee will occasionally be required to lift and carry objects of 25-30 pounds as needed.
  • Employee will be required to work productively and cooperatively in a high-volume, fast paced, highly pressured environment and be able to respond efficiently and courteously to unanticipated problems and crisis.
  • This role is not typically exposed to adverse environmental conditions, except excessive eye strain and possible lifting injuries
  • When travel is necessary, will be exposed to typical travel environment and surroundings
