TITLE: Housekeeper

DEPARTMENT: Custodial Services Department

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time (40hr week) (Variable Schedule)

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: Assistant Director of Facilities

JOB PURPOSE:

Provide comprehensive cleaning and housekeeping services to maintain an excellent standard of hygiene and appearance for the Wagner College campus.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain facility in a sanitary and infection-free condition through washing, cleaning and replacement of equipment and furnishings

Essential Functions:

  • Empty trash containers, daily.
  • Dispose of trash, waste, and other disposable materials.
  • Clean wash basins, mirrors, commodes and showers daily.
  • Wet-mop floors in all bathrooms daily.
  • Vacuum and sweep floors daily.
  • Damp mop all corridor floors, lobby, dining and other public areas daily.
  • Damp dust furniture, light fixtures, window sills, etc weekly.
  • Check entire area for spills, water, etc.
  • Wash windows as scheduled, as needed.
  • Completely strip and recoat all floor areas as scheduled, as needed.
  • Report any malfunction or tampering with all life safety equipment, i.e. fire

extinguishers, locks, smoke alarms, exit signs, etc.

  • Follow instructions on use of germicidal solutions to clean and use safety

precautions in all housekeeping services.

Non-Essential Functions

  • Report any needed repairs immediately to supervisor (such as leaky faucets or toilets, loose tile,
  • broken window panes, missing nuts or screws, beds needing repair, etc.).
  • Assist in moving furniture, equipment and materials for special events

QUALIFICATIONS

Work Experience:

  • Have working knowledge of cleaning methods and materials.
  • Operate various mechanized cleaning equipment, such as vacuums, polishers, buffers, etc.

Education:

High School Diploma, GED or comparable education preferred

Licenses:

  • Driver’s License required.

Desired Work Traits:

  • Hard working and self motivated.
  • Must be confident to work alone and as a member of a team, unsupervised

Communication/Interpersonal Skills:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills for dealing with faculty, staff and students.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • Requires working in damp, dusty and dirty areas. Must clean up human waste and other body fluids, as required.
  • This position demands good physical and mental health. See attached Physical Assessment Form
  • Position calls for the individual to become a member of Local 32B-32J.
  • Proper uniform attire is required.
  • Be willing to work overtime and/or change shifts when needed.
