Campus Safety Chief of Police (3824)
The Campus Safety Chief of Police is responsible for effectively planning, building and organizing, directing, and administering the overall police and campus safety initiatives of the Life University campus community. The Chief of Police will provide leadership, ensuring that law enforcement and campus safety policies, procedures, practices, services, and programs are appropriate and responsive to maintaining the safety and security of the University and associated activities. The Campus Safety Chief of Police has overall responsibility for directing and overseeing the Campus Safety Department and for providing a safe and secure environment for the University community. This includes providing a community-oriented policing environment and developing safety programs.
Job Responsibilities
- Plans, builds, directs, and evaluates all aspects of the integrated police, security, and emergency management operations and ensures enforcement of all local, state, and federal laws and relevant University policies and procedures.
- Direct and coordinate University security, safety, and protection programs to include traffic control, patrolling of physical property, enforcement of statutes and University regulations, crime prevention, and investigation of accidents, injuries, and criminal acts.
- Serve as the critical-incident commander during major emergencies and disasters and a key member of the Emergency Management Team.
- Plan and direct the implementation of the department's short- and long-term goals, objectives and strategies.
- Provide law enforcement advice, support, and information to the University administration on policy and procedural changes that affect Campus Safety operations.
- Review and interpret laws and regulations affecting the University and the protection of public safety.
- Revise and maintain informational manuals as needed (Campus Safety Department SOP, Emergency Response).
- Plan and schedule the work of subordinates and ensure the proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing and resources for subsequent performance of duties.
- Coordinate the preparation of operational reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
- Maintain effective liaison with local outside law enforcement agencies. (i.e., Marietta Police Department, Cobb County Sheriff's Office, GEMA, etc.)
- Identify departmental training needs and plan and direct training programs to provide current information and techniques to subordinates.
- Develop effective and collaborative working relationships with the various University constituencies.
- Prepare and present formal and informal security briefings to members of the University and the local community.
- Direct various personnel functions, including, but not limited to, hiring, salary recommendations, performance evaluations, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules.
- Present budget estimates, control expenditures of departmental appropriations, and establish operational standards for the department.
- Maintain professional discipline in the department and adherence to appropriate policies and procedures of the department and the University.
- Attend conferences and meetings to keep abreast of current trends in the field. Serve on campus committees when requested.
- Prepare and distribute an Annual Security Report as directed by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998,
- Ability to provide sound guidance, direction, and professional development opportunities and mentoring to staff and subordinates.
- Ability to lead law enforcement efforts in response to critical incidents.
