Location – D’Amour Cancer Center 3350 Main Street Springfield MA
The Cancer Program Nurse Manager is to manage all aspects of nursing care within the Baystate Regional Cancer Program (BRCP). This is inclusive of, but not limited to, ambulatory adult hematology/oncology infusion and practice nurse navigation, radiation oncology, the procedure and post-anesthesia recovery units, and outpatient clinics at the locations.
Leads the development and delivery of high-quality patient care and efficient, customer-friendly services. This role is inclusive of nursing practice, performance, and quality improvement, and has oversight of all nursing services within the cancer program.
Identifies and implements strategies that enhance financial viability, including cost containment actions and methods to increase nursing efficiency.
Develops and implements nursing policies and procedures that support programmatic and clinical programs and enhance nursing practice. With the clinical supervisors, directs and supervises nursing personnel including evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training.
Participates in documenting adherence to nursing personnel education requirements such as the Oncology Nursing Society chemo biotherapy course and completion of ONS certification within specified timeframes. Identifies additional staff education needs and, in collaboration with the nursing education team, develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates educational activities.
Acts as a consultant to colleagues and health care team members in cancer services, serving as a resource to nursing staff. Demonstrates the ability to function as a clinical preceptor. Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and actively seeks opportunities to broaden clinical expertise.
Demonstrates understanding of differences in policies, benefits, and union contract considerations across locations. Develops performance and quality improvement measures.
Translates cancer program goals and objectives into day-to-day operational activities within nursing operations. Effectively manages all aspects of outpatient cancer-related nursing practice, as well as anesthesia-based procedures within the D’Amour Center for Cancer Care and post-anesthesia recovery unit.
Effectively hires, directs, monitors, and evaluates staff performance. Participates in the planning process and facilitates implementation of plans.
Maintains knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding for APCs, APGs, and other reimbursement methodologies related to charging for nursing services.
Works with the Director of Ambulatory Operations and others to develop and monitor operating and capital budgets.
Collaborates with Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services leadership, and Physician Clinics, Research, and Quality leadership to ensure effective communication among nursing, technical, medical assistant, and practice assistant
REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor of Nursing Degree
RN Certification
Basic Life Support AHA Certification
Minimum 5 years of nursing experience
Minimum 3 years of management experience
Oncology Management experience highly preferred
