Position Overview
We are seeking a Capital Project Manager to lead and execute a portfolio of capital and maintenance projects within a complex industrial manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for managing projects from initiation through closeout, ensuring alignment with business objectives while maintaining control over scope, schedule, and cost.
The ideal candidate brings full project lifecycle experience, strong stakeholder communication skills, and the ability to operate within structured project management frameworks (stage-gate or similar). This role partners closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams, as well as senior leadership.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- 7+ years of project management experience in industrial, manufacturing, or chemical environments
- Experience managing projects through the full lifecycle (initiation to closeout)
- Experience managing scope, schedule, and budget using project management tools
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present updates to leadership and executives
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SAP
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification
- Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM)
- Experience using MS Project or similar scheduling tools
- Familiarity with Front-End Loading (FEL) or stage-gate project methodologies
- Background in industries such as chemical, pharma, oil & gas, mining, or complex manufacturing
Key Responsibilities Project Execution & Management
- Manage a portfolio of capital projects aligned with business objectives
- Lead projects across categories including maintenance, safety, productivity, and growth initiatives
- Develop and execute project plans from concept through completion
- Ensure effective control of scope, cost, and schedule
Planning & Coordination
- Organize and lead projects using established project management methodologies
- Define roles, responsibilities, and deliverables for cross-functional teams
- Coordinate resource allocation throughout all project phases
- Align project objectives with overall business goals and design requirements
Stakeholder Engagement
- Interface with internal stakeholders including operations, maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams
- Provide clear and consistent project updates to leadership and executives
- Collaborate with capital planning and corporate project teams
Project Controls & Compliance
- Ensure project data accuracy prior to detailed design and execution
- Maintain compliance with internal project standards and processes
- Monitor performance and ensure projects meet deadlines and financial targets
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work in an industrial manufacturing environment with hazardous materials
- Ability to work in varying conditions including:
- Elevated spaces
- Confined spaces
- Extreme temperatures
- High noise environments
- Must be able to stand, walk, climb, and perform physical tasks as required
- Required to wear PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, and respirator equipment
