Care Experienced Assessor 2026

Who are we

Frontline was set up as a charity to build a movement of social workers and leaders to bring about safety and stability for children. We focus entirely on social work for children and families and bring in social workers specifically trained to work in this area. We do this because of our vision that children’s life chances are not limited by their family or social circumstances, and we believe lasting social change can be achieved through our movement of social workers.

For this reason, we have a rigorous recruitment process for our social workers. One of the final stages involves applicants attending an assessment centre and we are looking for support during this stage.

Who are we looking for

This is a great opportunity for young people to get involved with recruiting future social workers. We are looking to recruit young people who have experience of care to work with us at our assessment centres. Care-experienced assessors (CEAs) must be aged 18 or older. Please note that you must be able to show us evidence of your right to work in the UK (for example, a UK passport).

The role

You will assess candidates who want to be child protection social workers as part of Approach Social Work, formerly known as the Frontline programme and ask them questions to test their motivation and understand their experiences. This is an important part of a wider assessment day to make sure that we hire the best people to work with families, children and young people.

This is a paid opportunity (£122 per day/ £61 for a half day). Those who work with us will be added to our payroll and paid monthly for the work they do.

Why should I consider this opportunity?

We want to ensure that the CEA role supports your development by offering you a chance to:

  • Be a contributing voice in the selection of participants for the next cohort of Approach Social Work and develop your interpersonal skills
  • Observe candidate performance and offer feedback about the skills they have demonstrated
  • Collaborate with recruitment professionals and social workers

Where our assessment centre is based

Our assessment centres will take place online on a video conferencing platform. To apply for this role, we ask that you have access to a laptop or PC with a stable internet connection. When you are working at an assessment centre, you will also need to be in a quiet and private space as the conversations you will be holding are confidential.

Application Process

To apply, please complete this application form by Monday 20 July.

On this form you will be asked to answer a few questions including your interest in the role and what experience you have that might support this position.

Please note that we may close applications earlier if we receive enough applications for the vacancy before the listed deadline. Therefore, we recommend applying earlier to avoid disappointment.

If you have any questions about the care-experienced assessor role, please feel free to contact: grace.agunloye@thefrontline.org.uk

We will be holding virtual training sessions for care-experienced assessors on Thursday 1 October and Wednesday 14 October. Please note you will only need to attend one of these sessions for the CEA role.

Completion of your training will be required before starting as a care-experienced assessor. You will be paid for attending this session.

Our assessment centres are scheduled from October 2026 to May 2027.

We run weekly assessment centres over this period, requiring the support of CEAs at each assessment centre. Please note that you will not be expected to work at every assessment centre – we will ask for your availability and let you know which dates are available for you to work.

Each full working day shift will have mandatory hours from approximately 8:45am - 6:00pm, with wash-up discussions taking place outside of these hours. You are more than welcome to join this space if you would like to, though this is optional and you will not be required to stay beyond the timings of your shift. Please note that exact shift timings will be confirmed closer to the start date.

We recommend that staff sign up for full-day shifts wherever possible. However, if full-day shifts are not suited to you and you require adjustments, e.g., half-day shifts, please get in touch with our team during rota planning so we can arrange this.
