Job Summary
The Cart Attendant is responsible for the daily operation of a mobile or stationary beverage cart, including the preparation, sale, and serving of fresh coconuts (water and meat) and other beverages. This role requires excellent customer service, adherence to food safety and alcohol service laws, and the ability to work outdoors in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Food Prep
- Transport, lift, and stock beverages including fresh coconuts, ice, cups, utensils, and other supplies.
- Safely use a machete, cleaver, or automatic husking machine to open coconuts.
- Pour coconut water and scoop coconut meat (jelly/meat) upon request.
- Clean and sanitize cutting tools, blenders, cart surfaces, and work areas.
- Prepare and stock carts according to company standards and business levels.
- Track spilled or wasted items and manage daily inventory with 100% accuracy.
- Follow ordering procedures and notify management of low inventory.
Sales & Customer Service
- Greet guests and provide friendly, personalized service.
- Operate a mobile POS system and handle cash/credit transactions accurately.
- Upsell add-ons, including alcoholic beverages and cocktails.
- Verify legal drinking age (21 years) and practice responsible alcohol service.
- Use respectful language and maintain a harassment-free environment.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all health & safety regulations (hand washing, glove usage, food handling).
- Demonstrate strict safety protocols in high-traffic areas.
- Properly dispose of husks, shells, and organic waste; keep area free of slip hazards.
- Understand and enforce all company policies and emergency procedures.
- Maintain uniform and grooming standards.
Additional Duties
- Complete opening, side, and closing duties.
- Pick up and drop off cash float; ensure accurate cash balancing.
- Assist in training new staff members as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Physical Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience: Previous food & beverage experience is a plus.
- Physical Strength: Must be able to lift 40–50 lbs. repeatedly and stand 6–8 hours.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to safely handle sharp cutting tools.
- Weather Tolerance: Work outdoors in heat, sun, or mild rain.
- Mobility: Walking long distances, climbing stairs, bending, reaching, and full use of arms/legs.
- Vision & Hearing: Close, distance, color, peripheral vision; full hearing and verbal ability.
- Emergency Readiness: Able to participate in lifesaving procedures and drills.
Work Environment
- Outdoor setting (beaches, boardwalks, etc.)
- Fast-paced, high-volume, especially during peak hours or events.
- Temperature changes from indoors to outdoors.
Language & Certifications
- Language: English required; Spanish a plus.
- Certification: Food Handler’s Card required.
